How many oppurtunities should you give someone to tell the truth?
If my smoking bothers you, don't breathe.

What's the situation. Usually I'd say one and if they they're not straight, call them on it.
nope.
2007-06-23, 5:55 PM #3
A dire situation. Once it's over I'll probably make a thread about it.

But it's left me heartbroken and cold.

The Bible says four.

Consequently, I have adopted the policy of shooting people in the kneecap the first time they lie to me.

It depends on the circumstances.

Do it like the police. Give them three chances, and if they don't, shoot them.

Once chance... that's the only true test of honesty. If you ask again, they'll probably get, from your tone or just from the repetition, the idea that it's a test, and whether or not they're honest to you then, it'll cloud their response.

One chance, and then call them on it, or just do what you need to do, perhaps end the relationship, whatever.

Random advice, take it as you will.

Everyone lies. However, I'm guessing that you're more worried about what she lied about, not just that she lied. If she cheated on you or went behind your back and did something hurtful, you should probably move on, unless you have a lot of time (years) invested in the relationship. If you don't have a lot of time, I would guess that the statistics are against you.

Man if she's a foreign lady who told you she could give you all the riches of the the 40 thieves, you deserve to get taken.

Otherwise...

A liar's a liar, they are never sorry unless they get called on it. Get away. Chances are while they are apologizing for one lie there are several others that they will never even tell you about.

I give them two, three if I like them.

Two.

"But Mike... why two?" you ask.

I don't know.

Two. Maybe three if they're a good friend.

Or one, if they're a good friend and I'm pissed off at them.

Or unlimited if it's not something I care about.

I wouldn't put up with crap for more than a few weeks, that's all I'd have to say.
After that, friendship over, unless they come clean one day.

Welcome to Massassi.

Where you can't post boobies.
2007-06-24, 10:16 AM #30
Well apparently so far, you can post these ones, so give it a rest until an admin takes them down. Koobie probably won't get in trouble or anyfink like that.
2007-06-24, 10:18 AM #31
Admins are corrupted these days on the forums and the chat, so anything could happen.

And I just remembered that everybody lies so contemplating on how many lies to allow is kind of silly anyway.

Without information on the situation I don't think anyone can really say what you should do, but if they're lying about something serious, I would be very wary lest she continue to do shady stuff

Me: I have no idea
Fincham: I meant where are you sitting. This wasn't an existential question.

ON TOPIC
What everyone else is saying is pretty correct. We can give you all the answers you want, but there's no guarantee that they're good ones because you haven't given a detailed description of what's going on (not that I'm saying you should, just that you should be careful about what you read here since it's generalized)

Exactly right. Now, I probably would've assumed some kind of relationship problem, but from your post in that thread about the minor getting married I'm not sure. There really isn't some hard and fast rule about this kind of thing.

It's of a guy who got kneecapped, and then he got "shoot here" tatooed on his other one.

Duh.
