I thought about buying one, but it's telling me it's not available online. And I'm practically out of money anyway. :(

This apparently will accept an e4xxx c2d. Not a bad deal at all..

Well, with 2Gb of DDR2 available for well under $100...and PCI Express cards all over the place...and with Core 2 Duo upgradability, I think even the best after-rebate-shopper will have a very difficult time beating this. I'd buy one if I had the cash.

Orrrr, someone can buy my Dell. :p

With only 512 MB of RAM, can that thing even run Vista like it says?

The computer itself is nothing special, but the price is definitely right in regards to the specs.

However, knowing Best Buy, the "new" machine you will end up with probably fell off a truck at some point and/or is something that has been sold/returned five times.

Yep. Barely.

Holy hell, you need 15Gb for an OS these days!?

Under Microsoft's recommended minimum requirements, the machine will boot with minimal features and run msword but not much else. To have a usable system your specs have to be at least twice as much as the MSFT minimum.

Even last year's machines that were sold as "Vista Capable" tend to struggle a bit.

Wow, I should get a few of these just to have them. I could set up work stations and buy a few asian people... Muahahaha

I'm using vista on a system rating of 2.9/5.0 with 512mb of ram.

If I had more ram itd be about 4.3/5.0 (Radeon x1950 pro :))

Cheap, and easy ;)

What's depressing is how close the specs are to my laptop, and the difference in price.

In four years, $200 will buy such a sweet machine.

Quick question: How do I check to see what type of RAM my computer takes? It needs an upgrade and doesn't take DDR2, and I have no clue what it does take. Much appreciated. :)
DO NOT WANT.

Open the case, take out the RAM, and look at the label on the stick.
Pissed Off?

I've seen it often enough that you can't even find out how much RAM there is on a stick by looking at it, let alone what type.
Stupid cheap manufacturers.
Sorry for the lousy German

CPU-Z might do it

If CPU-Z doesn't do it, try Memtest86+. If all else fails and the RAM itself isn't labeled, google the letters/numbers that are printed on the memory chips themselves.

The website http://www.crucial.com has an in-browser memory scanner that tells you exactly what kind of RAM you have. Very useful.

Edit: Oh, it needs Internet Explorer. Dumb.

Wha- CPU-Z Tells me that it is indeed DDR2 RAM, but I tried installing DDR2 ram before and it didn't fit. Mystery of mysteries!

[EDIT: Word!! In two weeks, I'll have enough money for an Xbox360 and 2GB of DDR2 memory on newegg.com! <3 ]
DO NOT WANT.

Warning: it probably WON'T be upgradable to a Core2Duo; the chipset, I believe, would be an Intel 945G, while it's specifically only the 945P or better that will work, not the G. Sorry to have to break that to you.

But that much machine won't play Elder Scrolls V or Half-Life 3. :(

If you don't mind running the applet through Internet Exploder, I'd personally recommend the Crucial scanner, of the above mentioned things, as the most reliable one to use.

Maybe you should tell that to HP/Compaq. ;)
