When I looked up my ip address on this website: http://www.ip-adress.com/, it shows my city as Hagaman, NY instead of Scottsdale, AZ as it should be. Whats the matter here?

I'm located in Wichita apparently, yet I live in New Mexico. Its probably just where your ISP's hub is.

haha mine is correct, n3wbs.

(Well close, it shows me as Post Falls, when in fact I'm in Coeur D' Alene, but it's only about 5 minute drive from here.

Do you have lots of Nazis? Haha, I had like four friends in SOI from Coeur D' Alene. My family is from Jerome, in the south though. Nice place, sort of.

It missed me by a lot.

It claimed that I was up near Eureka, Ca, but that's a looooooong way from Long Beach.

That makes it you and TimeWolf.

I wonder how this is supposed to work

2007-07-01, 7:27 PM #15
The only thing I can think of is that Time Warner is routing me through Wichita. That seems pretty retarded since Time Warner is supposed to be an internet service provider.

And it's not like I'm a few miles away. I'm in OHIO.

Oh well, at least i am not placed in queanbeyan like it looked like it did with the small image. (local joke, you need to live in canberra, and have lived here for a while and kept up with local politics, to be able to get it)

Well, I live in King of Prussia and the site thinks I live in Philadelphia:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=&saddr=lewis+rd,+King+of+Prussia,+PA+19406&daddr=N+11th+st+%26+W.monmouth+st,+philadelphia,+pa&sll=40.043386,-75.27523&sspn=0.188451,0.299377&ie=UTF8&ll=40.037341,-75.254631&spn=0.188468,0.299377&z=12&om=1

I would say it is not too far off.

Sites like that, and others, such as HostIP and MaxMind's GeoIP use a database of IP range to isp/city/state/long/lat pairings. I find those databases to be wrong about ~25% of the time, as such ranges are in somewhat of a flux as ISPs changes how they are utilizing IP address blocks.

Fortunately, in HostIP's case, if they are wrong, you can correct them.
And when the moment is right, I'm gonna fly a kite.
