Don't say to google it, I did and everything I tried was garbage or costed money (money that I don't want to pay)

Are there any free programs to split avi files with?

VirtualDub will do it, I think.

I cant remember for sure, but I think Virtualdub can do that. That's all I can suggest. It's free.

I tried VirtualDub but had a hard time figuring it out. I'm slow :(

Try SolveignMM AVI Trimmer. The only thing bad about it is that at times it doesn't seem to trim some fo the scenes that I want.

I have to ask why you even want to split AVIs. A lot of people do it to make movie downloads more "convenient," but convenient couldn't be further than the truth.

I say read the manual and use VirtualDub. It's not exactly hard >.>

Really depends on the editor. Maybe someone wants to only use parts of the movie for humor (Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged), or maybe they want to cut out something unnecessary for what they're trying to convey.
