Eh, if you don't have any medical training, it really doesn't matter how tactfully you handle the situation. The end result is the same.

I'm confused about how this kind of thing actually happens. I mean, even if you had no clue how to help, how do you continue shopping while someone's dying from a stab wound a few feet away? I would think even the most useless of people would stop and stare.

Balls to tact! You call for an ambulance, stop what you're doing and help!

They should all be stabbed and then forced to watch people ignore, step over, and take pictures of them while they bleed out.

This is beyond stupid.

Bull****. You get the phone and call 911 and the fire department or ambulance will be there in a matter of a few minutes. Plus, while you're on the phone with the dispatcher, they can talk you through basic first aid that can maintain the person until the professionals arrive.

Someone got stabbed outside of the pizza parlor where I worked a few years ago. It put our business on hold because our delivery drivers were ordered to wait until the ambulance arrived and took her away.

It's hard to image someone ignoring something like that.

There's got to be more to this. I refuse to believe if someone KNEW someone was dying, they'd let them. Much less take a picture.

at the very least you can apply pressure to the wound to try to lessen the bleeding.

He was one of the persons who continued shopping, so he could judge the situation very well.

Stupid people these days. The best use of a cellphone is for making A ****ING CALL not TO TAKE A STUPID VIDEO OF SOMEONE DYING. Surely you'd think someone would have some ****ing brains and do the right thing and call an ambulance. Sick sick world we live in.

If you don't have any medical training then you don't know how bad the stabbing really is and you call for help.

I don't care how stabbed I was. If someone did this to me I would summon the energy to punch them in the gut, even if it killed me. Jerks.

Punch them in the gut? What good would that even do?

I find this really hard to understand. *maybe* if she was just lying on the floor and her wound wasn't apparent (ie. blood wasn't pooling around her) people could just think she's passed out drunk and not help (even then you would expect people to check and make sure). Stopping and taking a picture? wtf?

Not quite the same since in this story it was a 5 year old who was calling, but still, maybe when somebody calls 911 they should take it seriously.

I never defined how it'd end. I simply said that the ending (either death or survival) is unaffected by tact, if those present are not medically trained.

The society we live in has ingrained us to turn away rather then help, make a mistake (or even not make one) and face a lawsuit.

ummm... society has ingrained in us to turn away instead of help? bull****. who in that situation would act consciously or subconsciously on the notion that 'oh damn, if i screw this up i could get sued' instead of 'if i do nothing this person is going to DIE.'

there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that legal ramifications of trying to help and screwing up would even cross my mind before I called 911 and tried to render aid, and i'm sure the same goes for most people.

Most of the west is a "help yourself" mindset. I am number #1 and other people don't particularly matter. So this really isn't that surprising to me.

But those people are still jerks.
