This is very creative and rather entertaining. It's several classic video games animated with common objects in stop motion.

I wouldn't imagine so.

This isn't nearly as complex of stop motion as what you're used to seeing.

Space invaders didn't have the blastable shields in front of you when you started. I remember playing another game that did.

Space Invaders had 3 blocks that would be slowly destroyed by incoming fire (or your own if you shoot it).

Space Invaders did have the shields. Maybe you're confusing it with Galaga?

Yeah, I'm thinking of Galaga. There's a Galaga machine in my dentist's office that has drilled (*pun*) itself into my mind.
