So, my comp is running really slowly as of lately. It's also been bluescreening with a different error each time. It was doing it a lot worse in Vista and it was always MEMORY_MANAGEMENT when it bluescreened. I've run MEMTEST86 on it a few times, last night it ran for 12 hours, did 10 passes, 0 errors.

The last 2 bluescreens I got were 0x0000008E and 0x000000F4. Both times something froze in the background, but I could still run my other apps before it crashed. Last time an explorer window crashed, but I had time to go to MSN, tell everyone I was about to crash, and then log off... I couldn't move the mouse to the taskbar though, it just got stuck right above it.

I've also noticed IO errors on my bittorrent client every once in a while, but that's on a seperate and brand new hard drive. Here's the systems current config:

Gigabyte nForce4 SLI Mobo (M8N-SLI i think)
AMD 4400+ x2 (939)
2GB Corsair XMS DDR400 (4x512MB)
2x XFX 7800GTX in SLI
74GB WD Raptor SATA ( C: )
200GB WD Caviar SATA ( D: )
320GB Seagate Barracuda SATA ( E: ) <- this is the drive with the bittorrent stuff on it
Creative X-Fi Fatality
550W Antec Neo PS

I couldn't really find anything online about problems with nForce4 and SATA, except a few people with Maxtor SATA Drives.

Thanks all :tinfoil:

Hmmm... I want to say motherboard or maybe power supply. What ahppens when you take out one of your GTXs? I'm not sure that 550w is enough for two GTXs.

Sure it is. You don't need 1.21 gigawatts for your video cards like the industry and [H] would lead you to believe.

The memory management error could also be a problem with the video memory or CPU cache, as well as system memory. Try running memtest on each DIMM. I once had a set of three DIMMs that had no errors when they were all plugged into the right slots, but if I switched two of them, I'd get hundreds of errors in memtest86. Which probably meant the memory controller was on the fritz.

COULD be your SATA controller. Not sure...the only way to test it would be to switch out motherboards, and that'd be a pain.

550w may not be enough for two GTX's plus everything you've got setup. Usually it'd be more than enough but you've got a fairly hefty power load. Try hooking up another PSU and putting a harddrive or two to that.

I think the power is fine. It never crashes in games, and it didn't crash before when I had the same setup plus 2 hard drives.

This was one of the few PS around that was SLI Certified when I built this rig almost 2 years ago.. (scary to think it's been that long)

Also, Yoshi, be in the chat more! (irc.synirc.net now)

I'm an idiot. Apparently I have something called Hub.exe running that neither AVG or Defender noticed. Ending that process makes it run fine.

Great.

Now I find who loaded "Ringo Photo Uploader" and end their process.

Thanks everyone.

A friend's name is Ringo. Should I ask him about it?

Well, that's true. I don't remember how much power a 7800GTX draws to be honest. He would be more likely to see a problem if he was running two cards from this generation, but as far as the watt rating goes, you can get away with a lot provided your PSU is good. If it's a crappy PSU he might not even be able to run it with 700w.
