JK MP question
2007-07-18, 9:59 PM #1
It's been years since I've been interested in playing JK, but my housemate and I thought it would be a hoot to play a friendly LAN game. Well, as usual, technology found a way to screw me over. I have a linksys wireless router, and followed the tutorial at the hub to the letter. Even deactivated windows firewall. Despite these measures, neither of us can get a game to work.

Help me, Massassi. You're my only hope.(

Does the hub tutorial tell you to use Hamachi? If not, use that.

Oddly enough, I just tried that a minute ago, but no luck. With Hamachi, do you try an IPX game, or TCP? And how long should JK say "searching", generally? Like I said, it's been a long time since I've tried this.

Gilgamesh85, i use the one below IPX i think , then it asks you for adress and stuff and it say you can leave the bar empty to search, well i press OK and then it stays searching but nope nothing happens to me either, and i so badly wanna play that game on MP and theres nothing wrong on the connections to internet, maybe u need some sort of, m IRC? if you search m IRC on google it might come up, but u need verification of your full name, email adress and stuff but its free.

Are you on a wireless connection like me? If so, there may be a problem there. I finally got things to work, but only after connecting myself to the router via an ethernet cable. I don't know why it worked, but it did.

With hamachi you do TCP/IP. Use the person's hamachi address (all the ones I've seen are of the 5.*.*.* type) as the IP.

With a LAN game you should not need hamachi. Hamachi is only needed when playing Internet games because JK can not handle NAT very well (IE if your computer's IP is not your internet IP it won't work). But over a LAN there should be no issues.

You can try installing IPX protocol drivers on the LAN Network Connection on all the computers then using IPX in JK. Otherwise I'd have to say that your connection is being blocked SOMEHOW.

Gilgamesh85 , yes i use Wireless, but i dont know how i use TCP , and then the bar comes as u can leave empty so the game can search, but its just not working it says that the whole time with no results..

SEARCHING... it says ... well should i type something inside there like the IRC.gamesurge#jk.net? but maybe u need to be a member to play on that server..

You have to type in the IP address of the person hosting in the box that pops up, otherwise it won't find a game.

I think I'll add by pointing out that if you're try to setup a game between two computers that connect to internet through the same modem via router, both computers share the same IP so setting up a TCP game won't work. I discovered this a while ago when with my two computers when I couldn't get IPX to work and tried TCP connection instead. No dice I'm afraid :(
