I just got done playing Q2 deathmatch for the first time in ages... I'm amazed how good the gameplay is even after all these years.

What are you favorite weapons/strategies for Quake 2 deathmatch?

Personally, I like the super shotgun the most and the rocket launcher second.

IMO, The super shotgun is great for close to mid range (you can get tons of frags with this thing alone). ammo is common in most maps so I almost never run out. For medium range in open areas, I like the rocket launcher because of the splash damage(quad rockets can do a lot of damage in a hurry) I prefer rockets over the BFG because the BFG is too ammo-hungry and players have plenty of time to dodge the very slow projectiles.

I don't like engaging other players at long-range unless I have to. (in which case, I like the chaingun because it doesn't require me to have perfect aim, and the bullets are instant-hit, unlike the hyperblaster. Rockets take too long to get there, and I never was very good with the railgun. (plus, the railgun leaves that particle trail that tells other people where I am)

I was a fan of the super-shotgun as well, and also kamikaze-ing with a grenade. It's the first online game I got into.

Don't the self-kills cancel out a lot of your frags when you do that? (That's been my experience with the technique, since you're almost never at full health for long in quake 2 MP and one grenade is usually enough to kill a wounded player)

The Shotgun for sure. It's not like many run of the mill shotguns and it has a unique boom-chic-chic sound :awesome:.

Quake 2 is uber greatness. First FPS I bought. I didn't like the multi-iplayer that much, but the single player campaign was highly enjoyable and quite memorable.

I have to go with the rail gun, I'm really bad at leading the target on the slower projectiles so I usually use the rail gun. When I don't have it, I use something with a lot of splash damage (rocket/grenade launcher) or the chaingun (which doesn't usually work out for me in MP).

Ah Quake 2... I played its demo like mad back with my sucky comp back in 1998, then bought the game and never played it until 2003... and then I got half-way through it and stopped playing again, but the Chaingun was always awesom-o.

Quake 1, 2, and 4 SP were definitely nothing to write home about. I made it through Quake 2 and Quake 4, but never Quake 1. I get really, really tired of walking through small hallways forever and ever and ever. Argh.

Railgun, closely followed by monster shotgun.

I'd have to say the shotgun. super shotgun was fun but too slow. it was cool to hop around a guy and drive him nuts with quick shotgun shots

Boom Chic Chic indeed :D

also, i was a big fan of that WW2 mod, i don't remember which....but it was alot of fun. the d-day map was challenging. and alot of people were still playing that game!

There are rumors that they might make a Quake 2 port for the Nintendo DS.

disclauncher!!!

wait, that was tribes. (in any case, i love fps duels with slow projectile weapons... and with jetpacks, tribes had the best duels evar)

hyperblaster.

it spewed hyper death.

It's tough to beat the good old rocket launcher. Hits hard, can be used at long range, has splash damage, and you can rocket jump. It's easily the most versatile weapon.

Pfft, the weapons in Quake were superior.

Regardless, the Railgun followed by the hyperblaster.
nope.

I'd much rather play Quake MP than Quake 2.

Also, Team Fortress's 11 year anniversary is less than a month away.
