While this is considered parody... I saw it, and it brought a tear to my eye... and unfortunately, its so true.

Well uh, considering it's a butchering of one of the most awesome monologues in the history of film, I'm not too inclined to appreciate it's inane message.

Anybody that tries to redo the monologue from Patton will fail hard. As such, I don't even really want to watch it.

i still think it was a good message, weather it was a butchery of the original mono log or not, i'll just have to take your word. but regardless of who said this "speech" i think it was pretty good. but that might just be me...

The guy did a pretty good impression of the original actor, but... no.

I love that movie.

I don't get the reference but it's not bad.
nope.

It's an excellent speech.

Just minimize the window and listen to the speech, and it does butcher the monologue of the movie.

EDIT: Back on topic, am I the only who sees this speech as a wake up call to reality?

Patton needs to crawl out of his grave, swim across the Atlantic, and strangle the man who made this for using the general in his ****ty attempt at pro-America chest-thumping.

2007-07-25, 2:29 PM #17
Agreed. Unfortunately, not even Patton could win a war on terror because the objective is undefined. Give the American military an objective (like oust Saddam Hussein) and they'll do it lickity-split, but all we're doing right now is asking "why can't everyone get along?"

To be fair I don't think you can kill an emotion with guns and explosives.

But everyone seems to be giving it a damn good try!
nope.
2007-07-25, 3:15 PM #19
yeah we're not fighting something defined, we're fighting an idea. That's a ridiculous task to try to accomplish
Fincham: Where are you going?
Me: I have no idea
Fincham: I meant where are you sitting. This wasn't an existential question.

2007-07-25, 4:19 PM #21
Well, fighting an idea is possible as long as there's something real to fight with a real objective to go with it.

But you can't ever be RID of terrorism. It simply is. NOT. Possible. As long as there are people in the world that hate other people, there will be some form of terrorism.

That's my take.

You're close.. More like "As long as there are people in the world, there will be some form of terrorism."

You don't terrorize people you like. Unless you're just a weirdo like that.

Cool video but I do agree that there will always be terrorism. At least until we kill them all.

I <3 Roach.

The original speech in the original movie wasn't exactly pro-war... I think your a little confused why this is so important, and what the youtube video you linked is actually trying to say.

That said, Patton was psychotic, to say in the least.

No, terrorism cannot be defeated, but neither can we.

Depends. Are we talking about Al Qaeda or the executive branch?

If we start obeying their commands so that they won't blow themselves up, sure they are a potential threat. People shouldn't deal with terrorists.

The answer was no. :P
nope.
2007-07-27, 3:43 PM #36
Actually, Gold's answer is kind of right, but maybe not in the way he meant it. Terrorists are a threat to our freedom if we allow them to be. Unlike an invading army, they can't impose a less free press or a state religion or even, say, the suspension of habeas corpus on us. Only we can do that.

I don't know what Habeas Corpus is but ok.
nope.
2007-07-27, 4:15 PM #38
Basically the right to get a hearing if you believe you're being imprisoned illegally. I mentioned it only because it has actually been effectively suspended here in the states, but that's another discussion.
