**** canon
any company that forces you to buy new lenses for every camera line you choose it just terrible.
Nikon lenses are all retro compatible. your brand new lens you get with your D-40 will still work with your nikon 8006.
on that note, if you want really good glass, go with the Nikkor-D series, best optical qualitythey offer. little pricer than the G series, but it they have the anti-scratch and color coating on them.
but really theres a rule of thumb about new nikon cameras "wait for the s" (ie - D70s, D2xs, etc.) thats what they release after most of the problems with the initial release are worked out.
personally i'd love to have a d200, but an 1500$ body isnt in the budget right now. maybe after i get my raise.
the only problem i have with nikon atm is that they are still refusing to use full frame ccd chips, so your lenses get shortened. this is the ONLY thing i like about canon's d line. as far as image quality, i've run direct comparisons with my friends cameras between the 5D(when it first came out) and the D70s, and frankly while the 5D was slightly shaper than the D70, the colour quality was quite lacking.
My girlfriend paid a lot of money for that tv; I want to watch ALL OF IT. - JM
