Anyone been to Russia?

So, hot off my 'post your java editor' thread, I've decided that despite being absolutely crazy you guys are, on the whole, very useful (i'm very much enjoying Eclipse, thank you all).

So, along similar lines, I'd be interested if any of you have been to Russia.
I'm involved in a volunteering project on a remote island in the Lagoda lake, at the Valaam monastery (link if anyone's interested), flying to Tallinn, Estonia and then bus to St Petersburg. I have a few days in St Petersburg (and a few days in Tallinn) before and after the project. I've never been to Russia (or Estonia) before, and I'd be most interested to hear any advice or stories from you guys if you have.
I'm working on learning Russian; I've mastered the Cyrillic alphabet (so I can at least read train stations and various signs), but my actual spoken Russian is.. well, awful.

I'm sure someone has, I remember seeing pictures of it on Massassi. Maybe he wasn't a Massassian though.

Yes, twice. Once around late 1990s, second time in 2003 (cheap drinks yay).

And since it wasn't really the same, I also was in the USSR as a babily baby.

Is it true that learning Russian (as a second language) can be nightmare?

Well, Russians sure do love changing word endings. I haven't exactly got the hang of that yet. But other stuff is really really simple, I seem to be able to use 'У меня' (by me there is) in loads of things. That's nice.

I think Russian will be easier than *ahem* some languages.

Wow, going to live on a monastery for a little while sounds so awesome.

*jealous*

Never been to Russia, though. For some reason, Russian people make me afraid.
