Heh, I know the first song by heart. It's about a girl called Katie writing letters to her beloved on the front, and it was used to name the Katyusha mobile multiple rocket launchers.

If it's in a language other than English (being the language of this forum) then I suppose it is qualified... Preferably, it should have a foreign sound, being either traditional music or based upon traditional music.

The second video I posted is actually a Dutch version of a Turkish pop song.

Hey Koobie, that first video you posted, can you tell me what the song is about?

I'll be going to Russia in September and I'm genuinely interested in what's hot and what's not. Are АлисA (woot for my mastery of Cyrillic?) big at the moment?

Tell me more about contemporary Russian culture! I have read that 'the fashion' in St Petersburg is, when not wearing your sunglasses, to have them on the back of your neck (rather than on top of your head, or hanging from your shirt). Anyone not doing so is, apparently, immediately spotted as a tourist!

It's called Youthful Funny Voices and it's about dead kids who've been killed by a maniac and are now lying in a morgue.

Not really sure. I mean, all people who listen to Russian rock know them (or at least should know them) along with other "classic" Rock bands of the 80's, and if I had a chance to go their concert I definitely would, but I guess I'm more of an exception. Not everyone's into old-school stuff.

Haha, St. Petersburg's kind of like Moscow in the sense that there's so many very different people you see every day that it's hard to stand out even if you try. However, unlike Moscow, people are more relaxed and friendly there. Even though my mom's from St Petersburg I've only been there once, and I was probably 6 or 8, so I don't think I'd be a good judge of today's fashion there now. It's probably gonna be something else in a week anyway. :) Good luck there. Oh, and a piece of advise: bribes. You want something done fast (or done at all), give them a bribe. It's considered a normal thing in Russia.

Hehe, yeah I've read that, but how do I.. uh.. go about initiating a bribe? And how much is normal? I've tried my damndest to learn some Russian but it's still awful, so I'll quite clearly stick out as a stupid tourist. I don't want to offer too little and look stupid, or offer too much and get raped, or attempt to bribe an honest policeman and get arrested..

There are hardly any honest policemen left. Which kind of sucks in a way. Anyways, depends on the situation, but 350 to 500 rubles would probably be enough. If it's to a cop giving you a hard time, make it seem like that's all you've got. So don't keep all your money in your wallet, keep it in different places on yourself. This is just common sense for any megapolis though, IMO. But I don't think you'll have any problems with the police, they don't usually bother Americans. And besides, I make it sound worse than it actually is. :)

Ok. But I'm not American. Do you know how I'd say 'I am Norwegian'? I struggle with word endings.. Я норвежец?

Oh, sorry. :P Either that, or "я норвег" ya norveg (which is also easier to pronounce). I'm not really sure which one's right, to be honest, it seems to be used both ways (and sometimes within the same sentence), so I'm sure everyone will understand you whichever way you say it.
