Jk Specs?
2007-08-05, 11:09 AM #1
I guess since codealliance's web site disappeared, our link to the jk specs has been broken. Does anyone have a copy I could put up so we don't have a broken link anymore?

Thanks,
Brian

Blarg, same with the Jed Plugins link.
2007-08-05, 11:21 AM #3
Also, does anyone have jed .95 zip file?
2007-08-05, 11:29 AM #4
http://jedplugs.sorrowind.net/

Doesn't have JK Specs but it does have JED.

(ZED is better anyway though!)

The JKSpecs are on the help file with all tutorials, too.

Archive.org caught it. Have fun, Brian. :p

Brian: Actually some Jed guy came around awhile ago and patched Jed to 0.951 which fixed some 3do hierarchy issue or something.

And yeah you should get Zeq's version of it too.

Which is what my site has, btw. 0.951

Some JED guy? SOME JED GUY? That was Alexei ****ing Novikov, your god. ;)
And when the moment is right, I'm gonna fly a kite.

Get ZED. It's better just because it has a much longer list of undos.

For the JK Specs, just download the Editing Manual on some obscure temple site, or some such. The Hub also has the Editing Manual. By the way, if you do any cogging, be sure to also get the DataMaster.

How about looking in the Hub Tools section?

Isn't that the Hub's purpose, to provide stuff for JK editors? >.>

I would like the original HTML version of the specs, thanks for the archive.org link. I hate the help file, it's like a windows help thing that bites my ballz.

What's wrong, Debian doesn't have a package for a .chm reader? :D

Certainly not in a programming sense since JED is a horrible pile of crap, the code looks worse than what even you write.

jed is pretty much a writeoff.

I was going to make a witty remark here but I don't think it's necessary.

if you actually knew how to, you know, program then you wouldn't make a retarded comment like this. read the code. judge it for yourself instead of being a dick.

hurr a program I use is poorly made so therefore I will take personal offense to an honest statement about its source code. :downs:

ACTUALLY, the witty comment I was going to make was "at least his program works".

Aren't you glad you overreacted on that one?

All of the stuff in Sith2 works fine except for Sige's goto-infested rendering code.

No, seriously, he used goto a lot.

How is this anything but a Sith2 jab?

Simple. He goes on and on about how he doesn't like people bringing up SITH2 and it's failure and then he seems perfectly okay with himself to attack a guy who wrote software YEARS ago who isn't even here to defend himself on the matter?

For all I care JED may have the worst coding in existence. But he released it, it works, and it's obviously been a major part of this community. That's more than Jon can say for Massassi. Or even you, for that matter.

The fact that it was me that made the original statement goes a long way in saying how much you just wanted to attack Jon.

Not at all, but I apologize.

Regardless, I think it takes a lot of nerve to just trash someone's code like that when they did it for free, on their own time, for a small community like Massassi.
2007-08-06, 8:16 AM #28
My post was a jab at GBK, I don't even know how we're talking about this still.

I accept your apology for the sith2 jab.

When I say that JED is a writeoff I am obviously saying that it is unmaintainable and cannot be extended. Seriously. Look at the code - 9/10ths of it is in a single unit.

The only solution would be a complete rewrite, which is - fortunately - in progress.
2007-08-06, 5:08 PM #31
Who is doing a rewrite?
2007-08-06, 5:15 PM #32
It's in the JKWorkshop project on jkhub. I think the people actively working on it are Giraffe and Zeq.

Fixed.

I haven't had a chance to look at it for a few months unfortunately. I'll pick it up again after the SP contest.

Edit: oh, and link

Hey Giraffe, you should look into the Visual Studio 2008 Shell. It's like the VS equivalent of the Eclipse RCP. If it's managed it might be worth using with your tools.

Squeeee! That looks good.

Unforunately, things like this always come and mean you don't have to write the easy part of the application - why can't they release a JK object model framework for me to use? :P

I just typed phonetically the noise I made in my head to myself when I read up on the VS Shell.

It has to do with this really bad comic, drawn by one of the most overrated comic artists of our day.
