Gametrailers.com - Retrospectives on Zelda, Metroid, F.Fantasy Series

Gametrailers.com has this great retrospective thing they do where they look back at a successful gaming franchise's origins and then go through the games chronologically, describing each game's features and impact. This'll make the lot of you weep with nostalgia.

Final Fantasy
They say that this one will be a 13-part series. There are currently four vids up, covering all the games up to VI.

Metroid
This is a five-part, and they just uploaded part three yesterday.

Zelda
This is a six-part, and was completed before Twilight Princess was released (and that other recent Zelda game). My favorite retrospective series of the lot so far.

The zelda retrospective is awesome, I originally caught on when they did a synopsis of the timeline of the zelda games, talking about the dual timeline theory.

I've since watched all the retrospectives, it's a good reminder about how much I loved these series, and inspired me to play through super metroid again (It's been a while!)

...

What? Wow. And I thought I was weird for having only played ALttP for so long.

Twilight princess will happen whenever I dishout the dough to buy it.

Only Zelda game I've played was the Minish cap for GBA... plus a bit of windwaker... Minish Cap was awesome though... maybe it's not the classic greatest Zelda game but it was pretty damn fun.

Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy V
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy VII*
Final Fantasy VIII
+Final Fantasy IX*
+Final Fantasy XII

Super Metroid
Metroid Prime

The Legend of Zelda
+Link to the Past*
Link's Awakening
+Ocarina of Time*
Oracle of Ages

The ones with stars are ones I've beaten, and the ones with pluses are my favorites. I really want to try out Windwaker and Majora's Mask though.

Bump - they've uploaded part five of the Final Fantasy retrospectives. This one is all about FFVII.

These videos are alright, good for nostalgia purposes and a summary of the game. I still prefer ScewAttack's GameVault and Angry Video Game Nerd for their jokes.

It was okay, but some of it's information was off <_> It mentioned it being the first to use limit breaks (VI did it first iirc)... Actually I think that's the only mistake they made other than the fact that it needed it's own episode if FF8/9 didn't - At least it's implied 8 and 9 are in the same episode.

They also didn't say anything about the optional 'weapon' bosses <_>

Those were pretty interesting movies to watch. I had watched both the metroid and the zelda videos. I know that the metroid one isn't complete yet but I thought it was odd that they didn't cover metroid: zero mission yet. I hope they do another video for the zelda one covering the twilight princess game.
