Should I start playing Eve Online again?
2007-08-12, 9:11 PM #1
So I quit eve online after 6 months, say a year ago.
The $15 bucks a month was bothering me.

Plus a faction declared war on my guild/clan/whatever it's called (corporation?), and blew up my ship with 100 mil in cargo expanders. I essentially got sick of the game and realized that a real life might be a tad more important.

Now, I just finished summer school, and on youtube I'm watching these Eve online movies (amongst family guy, Final Fantasy clips and trailers, E3 movies tornado movies, random comedians, and other stuff), and nostalgia is making me want to go back into it.

Thing is, I NEVER went into 0.0 space, NEVER took any risks, and tried making my money strictly by using my cargo ship (mammoth?).

This time, my plan is to go into 0.0 early, and prolly get into mining or join some big corp or alliance or something.
HOpefully I"ll get more money faster.

I just signed up for a 14-day trial and I've since got a MUCH better video card, NVIDIA 8800GTX, and I'd like to see how good the graphics can get in major combat situations.

I'm downloading eve now, 1 hour to go.

Anyway, is it worth it?

I dunno. :)

I might give it a shot this winter, though..it's dark out at 4pm..not much else to do, really.. :P
woot!

Kyle90 once had a life...that was before EVE. Now all he talks to me about are these huge fights and conspiracies and **** that go on in Goonfleet.

I say play long enough to get the 150mil so you can pay for it with in game money instead.
I had a blog. It sucked.

I would say no, don't give your life back to the MMO. Also, how old are you?

It takes FOREVER to do anything worthwhile in that game.

Let me put it this way, I'm going into my last year of college.

...

I guess that answers my question for me doesn't it?

YES sweet jesus. Come, you will not regret it at all. I'm sure there is some goon here who can sponsor you into Goonfleet, or atleast give you a recommendation to Duragon Pioneer Group or something.

Exactly, I'm going into my last year of college starting next Thursday.
Considering how much time MMO's take up...I think I'm going to just pass by on EVE.

Besides, it's not like there aren't a million other games coming out soon.

Bioshock
Lair
Heavenly Sword
Half Life 2: Orange Box
Halo 3
Mass Effect
Too Human
Assassins Creed
Warhawk
MGS4
God of War: Chains of Olympus

And those are just on the systems I own.

I don' have a Wii, but if I did there would be
Metroid Prime: Corruption
mario Galaxy

DO NOT JOIN GOONFLEET unless you honestly believe internet spaceships are serious business.

The Greater Groon, a smaller corp offshoot is built around casual playing, and I love it.

And how in the hell did you play EVE that long and never venture into 0.0? No wonder you got burned out, you must've been bored out of your mind!

I live in 0.0 space :D
2007-08-13, 4:20 PM #11
Every time I got around or near, say, 0.3 space, I always got my arse kicked.

Plus I never had a well-organized corp. I always was under the philosophy that I need to build up my assets, then venture out.

Now that I get the game more, I understand that that's not the way to play at all.

Still, I think I"m done.

:argh: Do not listen to this man, GROON is full of heathens and the sons of Satan!

Although it doesn't matter much since you aren't going to play, but whatever.

Fake Edit: Actually, GROON are pretty cool guys. For awhile there, it was discussed whether or not they would be let into the Swarm, but just do there own thing. I'm not sure what ever ended up happening with that, I think Hoegaarden refused or something.

Hoe's talked about it with the corp but it's pretty much universal that we don't want in with GF. It's nothing against GF, we like being in blue with them, but we're far too casual. Most of the GROON guys came from GF for that reason. To go back would be sorta silly.

Plus, comedy suicide ops are comedy.

I really want to try Eve, but I don't want something to eat away my life like that.
2007-08-13, 8:39 PM #16
I blow up ships with 100m worth of cargo expanders in lowsec with my main and shoot bobbits in 0.0 with my Goonswarm alt. The game is awesome, you just have to find something you like and not make it into a job.

alt?

That's 30 bucks a week. RIDICULOUS :P.

What should I spend the 14 days doing for maximum fun?
2007-08-13, 9:54 PM #21
1 . Mine rocks

2. Get a Destroyer

3. Kill Bandits With 8 Railguns of Pwnage.

4. ????

5. Profit!

Well, it's what I did anyway...you should note however, that 0.5ish space isn't quite safe either...I lost a frigate and a pod for that matter in like a 0.7 I think. I did not know that warp scramblers actually existed till then...One of the first things I put on my destroyer was countermeasures against it.

Also, if you want to be any good in PvP, these skills are a must. Organized in the order you should train them. If you do any of the builds I listed, you will probably start with a lot of them, cutting down training time. It probably won't take you long to do these skills.

Basic Propulsion Jamming Skills

1. Electronics I
2. Electronics II
3. Electronics III
4. Navigation I
5. Navigation II
6. Propulsion Jamming I
7. Propulsion Jamming II

Basic Microwarpdrive Skills

1. Afterburner I
2. Engineering I
3. Engineering II
4. Mechanic I
5. Hull Upgrades I
6. Engineering III
7. Science I
8. Energy Grid Upgrades I
9. Energy Grid Upgrades II
10. Afterburner II
11. Navigation III
12. Afterburner III
13. Navigation IV
14. Afterburner IV
15. High Speed Maneuvering I
16. High Speed Maneuvering II
17. High Speed Maneuvering III

EDIT: After you get those, do these.

1. Instant Recall I
2. Analytical Mind I
3. Learning I
4. Instant Recall II
5. Analytical Mind II
6. Learning II
7. Instant Recall III
8. Analytical Mind III
9. Learning III
10. Instant Recall IV
11. Analytical Mind IV
12. Learning IV
13. Spacial Awareness I-IV, Iron Will I-IV, Empathy I-III. The order these 3 skills are trained in does not matter.

Getting propulsion jamming is like 12h max and MWD is a day or two. I'm doing some 25+ day skills at the moment :P

Yeah, jesus christ. I'm training up for Interceptors right now, so I have to train up a 10 day skill, a 5 day skill, another skill for 4 days, ANOTHER 5 day skill and then another skill for 4 days. All in all, 29 days of skill training roughly.

When I trained up for tech 2 drones, that took me about 39 days.

When I trained up for sniping in a Gallente Megathron battleship, that took me about 38 days.

However, it is so worth it. You get so much cool crap that you can use, so many more abilitys that you can use, so many more ways you can outfit your ship. I do not regret any of it.

edit: However, just because you do not have 6-7-8 million SP however does not mean you are not worthless. Far from it. In fleet battles, Tacklers (Tacklers are ships that stop people from warping out) are vital. Goonfleet actually LOST a fleet battle today because all our tacklers got killed. Anyone can be a tackler, since they do not require much training for, like Simbachu said, maybe 12 hours.

Uh, where the heck is the learning skills?
