For some reason, I think it's going to pretty much defeat the purpose of pokeballs :\

A lot of characters use things that show up as items as well -- I don't see this being any different, especially since Pokeballs will have a LOT more than just those 3. The only thing I find strange is that there'll be a trainer character with these three, and there'll just have Pikachu and Jigglypuff as their own...

These Pokemon are all one character (think Zelda/Shiek), and are very different from the Pokeball item. Though I guess this means Charizard won't come out of the item anymore.

If you really want to make sense of it, just consider Pikachu and Jiggly wild pokemon.

Mewtwo has also not been confirmed as a character yet. Red's final smash?

Oh wow, three more pokemon characters, big surprise.
2007-08-13, 2:54 AM #6
One more technically. It's only one character slot. You make it sound like Pokemon is the only series that gets multiple characters.

Actually Vin, it is indeed a huge surprise.
It's not 3 separate characters, it's one team.
Technically, the character is 'Pokemon Trainer' (crappy name but oh well) and he commands the team.
The pokemon switch out like you might do in the pokemon game.
Nobody expected this. Not even those suggesting 'Red' or 'Ash' or whatever, expectid this

Well yeah because if they just had the trainer fighting by himself with his fists he'd get his skinny arse kicked.
nope.

You're kidding, right? You could poke someone's eye out with hair like that.

Ineffective against samus!
nope.

Advantage: scrawny Pokémon kid :P

How does a scrawny kid stand a chance against a girl with a gun?

So where does the trainer go while you fight his pokemon? Does he just stand there while you control the pokemon? In that case, it seems like the strategy to defeat him would be to avoid his "familiar" and go straight for the trainer, who seems relatively weak.

My guess would be he disappears in the flash of the pokéball.

Weren't you paying attention? His Smash attack is the Hair Cut :P

Uh, no he clearly hides in the background the entire time.

I didn't even click the link. The opportunity for a hair pun was too tempting to resist :P

Did you click the link? It's all explained there. He stands off stage. You fight the 3 Pokemon which share the same percentage.

Well actually, they didn't explain how he follows the battle on scrolling stages. Hovering platform maybe?

Seems like a dumb way to put more pokemon in the game.

Wow, my stepson just got the old GameCube smash brothers game, and it makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever. I sat there for half an hour yesterday watching him play and I was more confused than ever. So it looks sort of like a fighting game, but they are always up on platforms, and there are "%" meters at the bottom, which apparently can go up to 300%, and they keep smashing eachother off the platforms, where then the characters seem to just jump off air and then land back on the platform. Then I saw one stage where there was a huge yoshi wailing on a tiny yoshi, but the huge yoshi didn't seem to be able to hit the tiny yoshi and the tiny yoshi didn't seem to be able to hit the big yoshi. Then every once in a while, someone would fall off the ledge and die, rather than bouncing off air and landing back on the platforms. So weird.
2007-08-13, 2:13 PM #20
Hahaha, you should try playing it Brian.

It's a blast to play.
2007-08-13, 2:13 PM #21
The point of the game is make your opponents fall off the stage. The higher their damage is (the percentage at the bottom), the farther they fly when you smash em.
2007-08-13, 2:13 PM #22
They should make attacks for the rest of the characters that can penetrate the background and therefore attack Red directly (because I want to see his death animation haha)

And on that note, what happens when you kill his Pokemon? Does he just fly off the screen too? or blow up spontaneously?

SSB characters don't have death animations. :/

They have pain animations though.
2007-08-13, 2:20 PM #24
Yeah they do ... the slam-against-screen from melee haha

Red is out of available Pokemon!
Red blacked out!

Reminds me of the Ginyu Force in DBZ Supersonic Warriors 2

Should be awesome

But they bounce off the air and back onto the platform!

They're jumping. Haven't you ever played a game with a double jump?
"I got kicked off the high school debate team for saying 'Yeah? Well, **** you!'

2007-08-13, 4:10 PM #29
That's called the jump button. You can't jump until you've flown as far as the smash threw you (Which is based on the % you've been damaged) If you go far enough off screen, you lose a life.

It's basically a fighting game with powerups and the only death is on a ring out.

Hijack his console and give it a whirl Brian. It seems odd at first but it's really fun to play.
nope.

I played it years ago for N64, it was a lot of fun with a bunch of friends. I'll probably get this one.

It's the original trainer with the original 3 starters. It's definitely appropriate for this game. He/they work in a very unique way that I think could be interesting.

Algar makes a good point brian, you'd probably enjoy it in a group far more than alone.

Incorrect!

Where's bulbasaur and charmander? :P
nope.

Bah, evolved forms count. Honestly, I would have preferred Blastoise to Squirtle. Hopefully one of the alt costumes will have Squirtle in black sunglasses.

I'm guessing it's a speed/balance issue. Squirtle is the first form, and he's smallish, so I bet he'll be quick but weak. Ivysaur is the first evolved form, and is medium-sized, so it'll probably be the "average" character. Charizard, as the final evolution, is big, powerful, and slow.

I would love it if Snake could sneak up from behind and snap that boy's neck. Of course that would probably be too M rated....

I'm with Kirby.

Snake better be a badass, not some Nintendo-d up pretty boy with a sneaking suit.
I had a blog. It sucked.
