Acrobat Reader eats up all my ram?

I have 512 MB ram. When I press Ctrl+Alt+Del my Commit Charge reads
124 M / 1486 M.

I tried looking through the Bioshock Art Book. The file is ~75 MB.

As I go through the pages of the art book (and other big .pdf files) my ram usage begins increasing drastically. It just goes up and up as I move through the document. Eventually, the ram reaches its breaking point (1500 M+ on the Task Manager) and the program crashes.

I just don't get why they can't make a 75 MB file work with 512 MB of system ram. How can the average Joe use .pdf files properly like this?

I've never had an issue with Acrobat Reader...my last job had WinXP systems with only 256mb RAM. Granted, we didn't use 75mb PDFs...

Have a link to a huge PDF file? I'll d/l it & check RAM use..
woot!

This happens if I scroll through the pages of the document one by one.

It's probably because Adobe Acrobat Reader is a bloated pig.

Don't know what the problem is, but Foxit Reader works great!

I don't know why, but I've never looked for an alternative. Thank you.

Acrobat 8 is actually really good and the only one worth using.

I haven't bothered using Adobe's offerings in a couple of years. Thanks, I'll check 8 out. Foxit starts up quick and is great, but sometimes has odd little problems when it comes to things like forms and printing.

It's also possible there's another application which is conflicting. Windowblinds injects a DLL into every program, and it didn't play well with Google Desktop Sidebar. If I left them on long enough GDS would eat up 2gb of memory and hang the system. After an update to GD it stopped happening, thankfully.

Yeah, Rob's right. Saying Acrobat eats ram is like saying The View has bias.

People still use WindowBlinds?
