1.6 GHz Pentium M
Gig of memory(2x 512 MB DIMMs)
80 GB 4.2k RPM hard drive
802.11 b/g card
24x CDRW/DVD-ROM drive

Won't have it for another month unfortunately. No video card unfortunately, but the onboard card is "decent" with older 3D games. I can't change any of the hardware unfortunately, but it is costing about $600 less than it would to normally buy it. (Have to get it through school, which gets it cheaper but forces a set hardware configuration.)

Well, as long as you can format it straight away to get rid of any pre-installed crap, and be able to upgrade it I reckon you've done rather well there [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Well, there shouldn't be any preinstalled crap on it(since it's not a standard consumer deal), but if there was it wouldn't be a big deal. Comes with full XP pro installation disc though, not some crappy "recovery" BS.

Best part of all though, it's only 4.7 lbs. =)

That's good - they normally do come with those ****ty discs that I just chuck out. My laptop came with XP Pro full too(Hugs Geoff)!

(Geoff's my laptop btw [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif])

I could build that system for 300, if not less. How much is it costing you?

It'll mostly just be used for class stuff and to have a PC when I come home on weekends without having to lug my 19" monitor and 40 lb case each trip, hehe.

Might play a few older games on it on the weekends, but nothing too big.

And you could build a laptop for $300 when the case/screen alone would cost around $900, the memory around $400-$500, processor around $300-$400, hard drive, etc.

It's a *laptop*, Skippy. I'd never buy a prebuilt desktop for the life of me.

Oh, and I just looked, apparently 32 MB Radeon 9000's are standard for D600s now. I imagine it's part of their chipset or something. It's got its own dedicated memory though, no sucky shared. And that will do pretty well.

Oh, my bad, thought it was a prebuilt of some fashion.

But the memory costs the same as desktop memory, the processor a bit more than an Athlon XP, etc. It's not really that expensive.

I really suck with laptop hardware prices, since I don't keep up with them much, but they're still not to the stage where they're worth building yet.

I think they use either PC2100 or PC 2700 SO-DIMM DDR, and a gig of that is like $200. I was off on that, don't keep up with notebook memory after all. Still a bit more than desktop memory.

1.6 GHz Pentium M Dothan runs anywhere between $300 and $400 though.

Oh, a Pentium. That's your price problem [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

There is no price problem.

And Pentium M's are *nice*.
2004-07-26, 3:46 PM #11
So are Athlon XP-M's. And I was kidding.

Don't even try to start your processor war crap here.
2004-07-26, 4:35 PM #13
I wasn't, but hey, you know you can interperet any way you want. You'd just be wrong.

I'm a huge AMD fanboy, but in fact the Pentium M is the best on the market in the portable sector right now. AMD can't compete.

Brad is right. XP-M is no where near as good as Centrino Mobile

Precisely why there's no point in arguing it, hehe. It really is no contest.
2004-07-26, 7:25 PM #17
WTF?! I didn't even say it was better or as good. I just said it was good too. Brad--I know, and I agree 100%--that is unless you're looking to overclock your desktop with an Athlon XP-M.

Darth--learn to not judge, thanks. Unless of course you like being ignorant.

I've seen plenty of examples of your attitude and behavior. Don't need to see any more to make my opinion.

Desktop memory 512MB PC27/3200 = $99 give or take $10
Laptop memory 512MB PC21/2700 = $129, sometimes $119

Laptop HDs:
20 GB = $89
40 GB = $109-129
60 GB = $169-189
80 GB = $249

Just thought I'd share.

Actually... Newegg has many different brands of PC2100 and 2700 512 MB SODIMMs in the $90-$110 range.

And 80 GB 4200 RPM drives for ~$160.

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-145-484&depa=0 That's some good crack you're smoking, Judge.

And my behavior has nothing to do with it. I don't argue with people unless there's something to argue about. How about being less of a jack*** next time.

I'm thinking about buying this for college.

An Athlon 64 3200+ for $1250 seems like a really good deal.
