...and yes, there is a joke option in this poll. It doesnt take a CS degree to figure out which one. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

It's totally Portage.

(btw, GBK - 'emerge' is just a Portage command. Just in case you didn't know.)

Still though, it's like saying "apt-get is the best system updating tool."
It's not apt-get, it's apt. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]
My Debian-derivative/relative experience is slightly less limited than your Gentoo experience but I prefer Gentoo for reasons which are far too contrived to list here.

Interestingly enough, I'm installing/compiling it right now. I've found things to be quite interesting since the last time I used it. Links 2 is set up out of the box to use fb+mouse (although it helps that, this time, I actually know the commands to enable it). I've also found that the 2004.2 livecd autoconfigured my internet connection properly.
I'm gonna see if I can get by these days with WINE.

Bleh. Installing from Knoppix or PCLinuxOS (or another full-fledged graphical livecd) is infinitely better than using the Gentoo livecd.

Hehehe. I'm not though. Not really. It's a modified LiveCD featuring fancy things like 2.6.7 Love-Sources and Reiser4 support, although the actual kernel I just compiled is 2.6.8-rc1 with redeeman-r6 patches.

Uber.

Oooh you went with the Reiser4 cd. I should have done that. I had to reinstall Gentoo (due to my HD borking out on me) like 2 weeks ago. I thought about going that road, but Love sources have given me problems in the past. So.. I'm sticking with the Gentoo 2.6.x line for now. When Reiser4 gets added to the main kernel tree, then maybe we'll see.

I just use the Windows Update CD.
