Some jerkwad on Steam is using my CD key. The only way I can now get it reset is if I send in my jewel case insert to Valve and get them to reset it.

That's not just taking money from the company (who by now have probably made enough from Half Life 1), thats stealing from both them and you.
I know your thinking of just buying another copy, but even if you do, you should still go through the work of getting the other key reset, at least make the pirating ******* have to get another key

Steam is a perfectly good idea, in principle. Especially good for those that play DoD, TFC and CS on a regular basis. Less good for those that play only one of those.
But gone are the days of spending a night downloading a 100MB odd CS update, and downloading little updates every now and again makes more sense.
It is annoying, though, if I'm reinstalling Half-Life, I can't just install all the updates from my extensive library of HL and CS updates..

But really the huge problem with Steam is that it seems so unnecessarily bulky.. It might just be me, but Steam alone uses up far more resources than it should. Considering that Half-Life barely uses any this isn't really a problem, but it does mean that it's suicidal to keep Steam running in the background all the time.

Also a gripe is that I can't seem to get Gamespy 3D working with CS anymore (it wants cstrike.exe which doesn't exist anymore), because I want more specific filters than the ones I get in Steam. I might be doing something wrong?

I think you need to install regular CS (1.5) to play on gamespy (not sure though). Why anyone would ever use gamespy is beyond me. Steam is the lesser of two evils here.

Just so ya know that happened to a friend of mine when he tried signing up with Steam. All he had to do though was send in a digital pic of his case with the CD key to Valve and they banned the other guy or something.

It's not really warez users specificly that suck, it's idiots who get themselves banned and then download the key generators to bug people more. Why can't they just be a contestant for the Darwin awards?

I did a filefind for cstrike.exe and I get nothing at all.

Steam is going about it all wrong. Rather than being such hard-a**es about cd keys, they should be more lax b/c such stringent policies only hurt legit users like Wolfy.
