18 years in the Army that is. All active duty. I swore in 24 August 1989. Two years to go and I get a paycheck for the rest of my life. God I'm old.

Isn't this similar with cops where they can retire in 20 years too?

I may not be able to retire at 20 because I could be in Iraq for a third time. If that is the case then I will probably retire around 21-22 years in (another 3-4).

I will probably rent both my houses out and live in an RV for a couple years, get a really crappy job where I can make decent money, like selling cars, and pay most/all of my debt off. When I get to the point that I'm debt free on at least one house, if not both, I will probably move back into one, go to school full time, and make a decision from there. I think being a teacher would be cool because you get to spend time with kids and get plenty of vacation (so I can spend time with my own).

Really depends on the department. I'm on temporary assingment to Fresno, CA right now and the police here can retire at age 50 and receive a pension or 2% per year they served.

We can only celebrate a duration of time if it is a multiple of 5 years.

Regardless, congradumulations!

Congrats man. And the thread title confused me because I was just thinking to myself "Isn't he in the army?"

Hope the next 2-4 years go by fast.
I had a blog. It sucked.

That's why I did it that way when I realized it. People are always starting threads here when they turn 18 or 21.
