Ok, I need help Massassi. I have some sort of virus on my computer.

Basically, it is sending spam emails from my pc without me noticing.

I got a message from my ISP and said they had a report of all this spam coming from my PC, and that they would terminate my account if it wasn't fixed. Is there a way to disable email from being sent, or something? I need help fast. :psyduck:

In my opinion, if your machine has already been compromised, it should just be formatted. You cannot trust a compromised machine.

However, you can try to track down the virus/trojan and disable it yourself or see if your virus scanner can even pick it up. You get bonus points if you can trace the intrusion back to someone.

first thing to do is UNPLUG IT FROM THE INTERNET. This will A. stop it from sending spam and B. stop it from downloading more viruses.

try scanning your computer with a anti spyware program like AVG its not free anymore but it does have a trial that works pretty well

Also another possibility: your ISP is dead wrong.

My ISP pulled this on me once, disconnecting my internet saying that I was sending "spam" emails out from a virus. Except, all I was doing was keeping in communication with a group of 5 people (sent about 200 emails in one day). I was incredibly pissed off when I discovered that it was LEGIT emails that my internet got disconnected for. I grilled the ISP's tech guys for it and got my internet restored.

That's not to say you shouldn't unplug and check for viruses first.

Scan your computer with a scanner that boots from a cd or dvd. There is at least one scanner on Knoppix.

If it is a virus back up your important data (not programs) and format.

Something similar happened to me once.

Just have a clean sweep of your hard drive and you should be fine.
