I'm trying to run a line out to my Wii (which is in a room ~200ft away from the rest of the house) and I know CAT5 can only be ran so far. The problem is, the connection to the internet (DSL) comes in on the far side of the house away from the 'game room' as we call it where the wii is.

There is a computer in the room of the house that is closest to the game room, but the line ran to it is already on a router, is it possible to re-route that line into two more lines or does it not work that way. I'm not good at networking... I know that one line has one IP on the router, but shouldnt the second router be able to give two more ips to the seperate lines?

I dunno... help?

If you installed another LAN card you could always bridge the connection (I might be misunderstanding the situation).

You should be able to put two lines off of the router near the game room (given that it has the plugins). Another option is a switch or a bridge, but that's a lot of work for such a simple network.

If I'm understanding correctly, you already have a line there, and don't want to run another 200ft cable? If so, plug a switch into that cable, then run two shorter cables off the switch for the PC & the Wii.

An MSPaint diagram would be helpful! :)
woot!

Alright, the measurements are more realistic this time, but what i was asking in my original post is, the computer that is on the left side of the house (using image) can that line be spliced again (or signal) to be sent to the computer and to the wii on another router? Or like someone mentioned, a switch. Chances are the computer and the wii that are sharing a line wouldnt be used at the same time.

edit: oh yeah the blue box is the wii

Yes, a switch will work just fine. No signal lost, either, as you reset the distance when you hit a switch.

Signal loss wouldn't be a problem until 300 feet anyway.

If you are going to buy hardware, why not just go wireless. Wireless routers usually have a few standard ports as well. Wii has built in Wi-Fi.

Where the HELL did you come from? Why are you never around anymore?

Also: 150+ feet is going to be pretty far for wireless, not to mention laggy. I personally would want a direct connection with a gaming device. Maybe I'm crazy?

No you're not crazy. In my expirience the Wii's wireless capabilities suck.
Sorry for the lousy German

could always use wireless range extenders

When I lived at my dads, we had a wireless router no more than 50 feet from the Wii, which was only about 10 feet from my computer. Computer had full signal, wii never could get one. So... hard wire is the way to go with this one.

Still no specific recommendations?

Switches are switches. They usually don't cause much problems one way or another.

if the computer nearist to the 'game room' has 2 network cards you could run a crossover cable to the wii, or if it has a gigabit card just a regular ethernet cable.
