Just curious. I want to buy a cheap alternate computer.

Plus, the size is convenient for me.

My desktop computer died. I want to replace it with a Mac Pro but I refuse to buy one until they release the refresh.

its gonna be a long 4 months.

When they originally cost $500, I thought they were worthwhile. Considering that they now start at $600 and a Macbook is just $1099, and you get a monitor, touchpad, keyboard, iSight, and the ability to use it anywhere (battery), it seems like a much better deal.

you realize that's $500 more right..?

for $500 i could get a nice 22" monitor, wireless keyboard and mouse, and still have some left over.

I do. I just think that the extra few hundred dollars is worth it for portability.

mac mini is also more upgradeable. they use a zif socket for the cpu on the mini, the macbook it's soldered in place.

it just depends on your needs... if you are doing photoshop on it, the 13" glossy macbook screen would suck majorly. also if you are doing any kind of video it's fairly hard to use the 13" for that :P

i have both, and i couldn't see using the macbook as my ONLY machine.

As stated earlier, wait for the refresh if you're going to buy ANY mac. I have a company provided Mac Book and it's pretty nice. I'm far from an Apple fan, but the hardware is nice and it's FAST. Great general use machine for sure.

the mac pro is $2500 but after the refresh it's probably going to be 4 GB / 8 x 3 GHz Xeon.

There's an apple announcement September 5, at least wait til then

I imagine we're getting a leopard date, either that or an iPod.

the september 5th announcement is probably going to be for ipod touch.

but I'm still hoping for a mac pro refresh on september 5, even though it's not going to happen.

So if I'm planning on buying a MacBook, I should wait a few more months?
