Uncheck fullscreen in the video options???

There is no option in Display Options.

I remember it being a tag you add to the target line of a JK shortcut...

Running it in windowed mode causes it to switch to software rendering, doesn't it?

JK can't be played in windowed mode, only the GUI. Use the -windowgui command line switch.

it can, just not with hardware 3D

It can certainly be done... Though I'm not sure if I can quite remember how

you have to turn on the advanced display options...
which I don't remember the tag for. And then I think you can set it ingame.

I'll have the answer in about 5 minutes.

yep...

though to warn you it seemed to be buggy as hell.
Not sure why, I didn't notice problems when I'd done it before.

ok.. figured it out (and then shortly after realized that NoESC did in fact post how to do it above.. (I didn't notice cause he used dark letters)

click start, run, type in:

"C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Jedi Knight\jk.exe -displayconfig -windowgui"

(assuming you installed to the default location. update as needed.)

The difficulty I had before was with using a fullscreen gui, JK didn't seem to like switching back and forth. If you use the windowed gui though, it works fine.

And yes, you do have to disable hardware acceleration for this to work (or rather it will disable it automatically).

That makes it virtually worthless...

Except that it doesn't.

What if you're working on something else and you want to be able to switch back and forth quickly?

And 3d acceleration is hardly necessary, unless you're using certain mods. This makes it kinda like the Desktop Adventure games Lucasarts put out. Which are fun.

How many times has someone here pulled up Solitaire or Freecell because you were bored and didn't want to go through the hassle of a fullscreen game when you'd be switching back and forth. I do it all the time.

(If I could play WoW windowed, I think I would never, EVER, close it.)

OMG, why did you show me that. Are you trying to get me to quit my job and dedicate my life entirely to the pursuit of leveling?

I used to play JO windowed, when it first came out. Same with original HL and it's mods. I'd run at 1024x768, with a desktop res of 1280x1024. Worked nicely. An added benefit for HL was before Steam it used to have that nasty bug that would disable your sound if you alt-tabbed out. If you ran windowed that wasn't a problem.

(note: while I was posting about playing WoW in windowed mode, I thought to myself, "I'm pretty sure there's a setting in the options, actually" but then I decided that I was better off not knowing.)
