did google shut itself down?

google was down yesterday due to a dns attack from the mydoom virus.
it has been speculated that it was done on purpose so that people would pay attention and get google in the news even more because they came out with their ipo. they estimate shares will start at $110US.

any press is good press. and the fact that some people felt useless without google will make more people think that google is essential in todays world driving stock price slightly higher.

The virus hit all the other big search engines too, so I don't see it being a Google consiracy.

It may have been intentional, but I doubt it.

It certainly did cripple me.

I never realised how often I use google until then. I was looking for something, and then eek! error -27 or something.
Okay.
I started doing something else and, oh I'll just google this little thing, wham. eek.
It took me a while to realise that there are actually other search engines, but I felt dirty using Yahoo.

I wasn't home monday, so I missed the whole crisis.

Google is my search engine, email service, spell checker, and dictionary. It provides pretty much every tool I need for using the internet.
