External Harddrive problem...
2007-09-08, 7:59 AM #1
My friend pluged in an external harddrive into a Mac laptop (OSX) and then pulled it out. The MAC fliped out and was like hey buddy you didnt eject me.

So now when he tries to plug in the external into any PC it wants to format the drive. :o If he puts it in the MAC it wont do anything... WTF

Is there any way to get past that and not format (salvage) all the goodies on that harddrive? Or is it all lost now....

PS im talking to my friend on the phone right now

What? It didn't format the drive. All the data should still be there. What partition type was it? For example, google "ntfs file recovery" if it was NTFS.

Quoting your own posts because no one is paying attention to you is one of the many measures of lameness on internet.

That's bollocks, I copy files between my mac and PC on the external HDD all the time. As long as it's FAT32 you shouldn't have a problem.

Well... if you plugged it into a MAC... what file format was the disk written in because unless it's FAT, FAT 32 or NTFS Windows will have to format the disk before it can read it.

who knows what file format it was....

My friend, you and you alone can answer that... we don't know it's not our hard drive, most times you should keep track of your file format though. :suicide:
