The "It's girlfriend season" ad is whats making me miserable.

This article=truth, at least on the first reading. Truth diminishes the more times you read something though.

Damn fine article. Ironically, I'm reading Fahrenheit 451 at the same time, which is getting me all depressed about how right it is about humans and their lust for 'happiness'. What a lovely combination, now I hate people. :(

I never finished that book, actually.

I'll have to go restart it, thanks.

It makes me sad.

I am mortified that 3 out of 4 people say they have at least one person they could confide in with a naked photo of you doing shameful things.

Well, if you *had* to show someone, how many people do you have that you could trust to keep it a secret?
2007-09-09, 9:56 PM #8
While I think the article does strike a strong chord, I'm not sure I entirely agree with it. Maybe it's in part because I've met so many people online and have had a good time with them, maybe it's because I bond with them in "creating something" (story-writing on the ISB), maybe it's because this sort of environment fosters the strengths in writers, maybe it's because I don't feel socially crippled as the "emo" people this article was referencing feel... I don't know.

Whatever. Ultimately the 21st century is just the 20th century except with more stuff.

the same could be said about any century compared to the previous one back all the way to the big bang. before then there was no time, so it no longer applies.

There was no time before the Big Bang? Yeah, you do have a point. If the theory's correct, time (or at least what we perceive as time) didn't exist. I wonder if our universe's a beta version? As in, can what we know as time stop existing again, and then there's a reboot and a full-version release?

Two things. Time is just a measurement for something that doesn't explicitly exist, like inches. Second, just because there's no matter in the universe doesn't mean that there is no sequence of events (i.e., what we perceive as time).

The universe is still there, it just has no matter in it. that doesn't mean it's some alternate crazy parallel universe with totally different physiscs..

And back to the article, it completely sums up my feeling about the internet and why it's one of the worst inventions in the history of mankind.

But there are huge amounts of energy, that is neither created or destroyed, which means matter is eternal, and has always existed, if you believe the two are directly related, which is part of Einstein's theory.:awesome:

That article is amazing. And you guys all suck for turning this thread into a Big Bang debate.. I mean seriously... What does that have to do with the topic of this thread. Let's bash on emos instead.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

So I decided to write a really long response to the article linked in this thread. I know, myspace, "bleh" -- and yes, "tl;dr" will likely be your response... oh well.
