...someone called a bomb threat into the local middle school, which just happens to be in the same building as my high school. Which means I get to sit at home and relax all day instead of having my mind beaten to death by some of the ridiculous classes I'm taking.

They never sent us home for bomb threats, they took us into the parking lot so we could be picked off by a sniper... lucky that never happened. They just let us hang out there for a couple hours til the 'deputeee' decided it was all clear... its a wonder im not dead.

I related by mentioning how dumb my old highschool used to handle bomb threats, or threats in general. Just because someone called in a bomb threat on 9/11 doesn't make it terrorists, it more than likely makes it an idiot who wanted the day off.

Well, they didn't send us home at first... we went to the football stadium for a little bit before they called it off. I was surprised, actually, I expected them to search the school for an hour or two and then force us to go anyway, but they just called it off after about ten minutes. *shrug*

And for the record, I thought the same thing-- what if the bomb just went off in the football stadium? Everyone was definitely closer together there.

I remember once we had this bomb threat, when I still lived in the states (pre 9/11), and then they sent us home.

It turns out there was this old gas tank (filled with diesel) near the school, and they used to gas up the school buses. Well, the gas tank just happened to have fallen on it self and started leaking. Some one spotted a box near it, and when they went to go see what it was, they opened the lid and saw a metal container-like thing with screws on it, they didn't take out, fearing that it was a bomb. A few minutes later, they sent us all home, and the next day they told us it was an electric pencil sharpener that was going supposed to have been returned to the store where they got it from cause it was broken. Hilarious. I forgot which teacher left it there, but I know it was a he and he felt like an idiot, as did everyone else. But hey, better safe than sorry.
