Best computer speakers (2.1)
2007-09-12, 11:40 AM #1
So I have one of the logitech X series 5.1 surround systems, but it's kind of crowding my desk. Also, since I mainly just use the speakers to listen to music and sometimes movies, I'm looking for some high end 2.1 speakers. I've been doing some research and I think I've boiled it down to two options:

1) Logitech Z-2300
2) Klipsch ProMedia 2.1

Which should I get, or, if you have other suggestions, please speak up. I don't think there are many options in this category, so I might think about going 5.1 again (maybe the Logitech Z-5500?).

From what I remember computer speakers suck and you're better off spending money on normal speakers.

the logis sound better than the klipsch, but neither have decent mids. you'd be better off with a receiver and some monitors

As a side note, I absolutely love my Z-5500's and would recommend them highly.

You really think so? I've always heard the Klipsch ones are much better, but I haven't heard either in so long.

When I heard them I liked the Logitechs better. But this was with them in a store on display, so the Klipsch could have been abused a bit more...

Oh, well store demonstrations may not be very good. There could be a poor source that's split 50 times for all you know.

Klipsch ProMedia 2.1.

I've heard AMAZING things about them, and they're fairly decent price too. I'm planning on getting the BurstMax ones from a resell on [h] forums for 110, we'll see though.

BurstMax ones? Are those revised or something?

I recommend that anyone interested in ANY audio or video purchases search and post on the Ars Technica AV forum first.

More overall wattage--50-55 for each satellite I think, and like 60 for the sub. I'm not sure about the overall specs but from a quick glance at the specs on newegg they seem like a better revision.

Be careful, specs don't tell you much. They could be the same drivers but revised to handle more power, in which case they would probably be good, or they could be different, crummy drivers with a higher wattage rating geared towards gamers who care only about watts and bass.

Actually, wait, I'm confused. I can't find any product called BurstMax or MaxBurst.

Oh I see, you're comparing the ProMedia 2.1s that have the max burst rating in their title vs the GMX line.
