I too am fed up with my wireless connection.

Inspired by JLee's thread, I too thought I would share my wireless woes with Massassi in the hopes that someone would be able to shine some light on my problem. I can't figure out what the damn problem is and it's driving me insane. For some reason my wireless adapter appears to randomly disconnect from my network, but it is an abnormal disconnection unlike any I've ever experienced.

Instead of simply saying that my receiver has no signal to the router, the wireless network device in my taskbar just seems to disappear and under my network list it simply says that the connection is disabled. (As if I were to right click and disable it myself). So logically the simple solution would be to Enable it, however it more or less tells me that it cannot. Now, while all of this is going on, mind you, all other connections to the router in my house work fine.

To solve the issue, I must do one of following things:
1) Right click the network connection and press Repair. If successful I will be reconnected to my network. (However sometimes this will fix the problem immediately or it randomly make my computer restart and upon loading back into windows my internet is functional).
2) I unplug the Wireless adapter (USB device) from my computer and plug it back in. (Once again this will sometimes fix it immediately or randomly restart my computer and the internet will be fixed upon getting back in to Windows).

Now if you've actually read this far down you're probably thinking that it's either a problem with my USB slot on my motherboard, or it's a problem with the adapter itself. Well I can tell you that I have tried two different adapters on different USB slots and experienced the exact same problem. Also, for whatever it's worth, when the disconnection does occur, the power lights on the adapter are still on and it appears to be functioning normally. To make things even more confusing I have used this router and adapter setup for probably 4-5 months now and I have only had this problem happen to me in the past month or so.

It just makes absolutely no sense to me, especially why I can simply unplug it or repair the connection and have it work instantly. The random shutoff of my computer was something that I found on Google that others were experiencing, though there was no real solution found, and I don't even know if that's directly related to my problem. Also if this helps I always have 5/5 bars of signal strength to the router, so I highly doubt it's anything like a weakness of signal problem.

So yeah, basically if you know your stuff about wireless connections, or you just have some free time on your hands to help research my problem, I'd really appreciate it.

Sorry, no solution to your problem. When I had wireless issues, in one case it was a broken router and in another a broken wireless card. I lived in another house where the wireless simply would not work, even if the devices were right next to eachother. I still contend that someone in a nearby house had something on the same frequency that was jamming it somehow, because I couldn't think of another explanation.

You may have better luck with a "real" wireless card instead of a usb dongle. Hah, I said dongle.

I too have been having wireless problems, particularly at Uni. (they provide wireless through Aruba Networks; I've tried contacting these people but they provided no help)

I can connect to their network successfully only once a day on average. (after that, their router refuses to give me another IP address again for some reason) Even when I do successfully connect, the connection stays up for more than a few minutes only 50% of the time.

I only have these problems in Ubuntu, whereas I can reconnect all day with windows XP.

I don't know if it's a driver issue (I'm using the kernel driver instead of ndiswrapper; and the device firmware works as well as it's ever going to) or if its something on the router side.

On my own LAN (or anywhere else, for that matter) I don't have these problems, which makes me think it's something to do with their system.

Ha! Maybe they're transferable, because mine has been working fine for the past several hours! :D

I am still intent on demolishing my router, though. :ninja:
