I'll miss piloting my storm crow mech with 8 medium lasers all linked together. Nothing like dealing massive damage and shuting down the mech with the single click of a button :)

There were a couple of seige mechs that your could cram 6 ER PPCs into. That was insane.

And that's how I played Mechwarrior 3
6 ER PPCs at a time would cause a meltdown unless you have some sort of magical heatsinks that I don't know about. :P

I don't think I ever played MW after MW2. I remember I played 2 extensively. I think I might have tried 3, but never really got into it. It's a shame, because I always thought that series was really different and fun.

Damn, this is really making me want to play some kind of mech game. What's a good current one?

MechWarrior 3 is actually pretty decent, but MechWarrior 4 is awesome. MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries is way awesome. I'm not sure about the Black Knight expansion for MW4.

They released remastered versions of MechWarrior 2 that had 3D acceleration some years ago. You should look for those. Make sure you play through the Ghost Bear's Legacy expansion, as well as Mercenaries, if you haven't already

Head shots too. A well placed shot to the face will take out an Atlas.

I used to play Mechwarrior 2: Mercs back in the Win9x days (an even now on a Win98 virtual machine) , and I remember that direct hits to the cockpit with a lot of SRMS and minimal damage to the rest of the mech would be a one-shot kill, and significantly increase the odds that you would be able to salvage the mech chassis after the mission.

Some mechs are easy to destroy this way (Flashman, Atlas, Catapult, Urbanmech, and Jenner specifically come to mind, while anything with a big/overexposed cockpit would do) while others were harder (Awesome, Panther, Commando, Thug, etc)
