Alright, networking/Linux issue. My main rig runs Windows, and I'm on the internet through a wireless router. I'm trying to get my Debian box to get internet access through this machine, cabled network cards. The closest I've been able to get is the two machines can ping each other, but I can't get DNS requests forwarded across network connections.

Using ICS as normal is out of the question, since it demands it changes my IP to 192.168.0.1, which is the wireless router (and no, the router's not mine to mess with). On top of this, the Linux box can't seem to keep the settings I'm trying to give it, winds up connecting as 169.254.xx.xx when left to itself, can only get it onto 192.168.x.x when the connection is active and I change it on the fly.

If I could get online with that box I could try to download something to help with it, but everything I've seen suggests this may not be possible because I'm already behind a router.

I'm 99% sure if you turn ICS on, you can go in and change the IP the device sits on (like, to 192.168.1.1).

Yeah, ICS will change your IP to 192.168.0.1 by default, but you should be able to change it manually.

I third this. There's no reason why you can't just go in and change the IP to whatever it needs to be to work.

Problem is the router is already 192.168.0.1, and I can't change that. Because the IP is already taken, it just throws up errors and reverts.

Disconnect from the router until you get the IP changed?

That's probably the best thing to do, that way the DHCP it sets up still works.

Try it anyway and see if it works. Worst that happens is that is has no effect.

Regkeys don't exist, and I didn't see a similar article for XP after searching. At this point, I'm pretty sure I have to resign to getting a wireless dongle for that computer.
