State Senator Sues God
2007-09-18, 2:38 PM #1
Nebraska State Senator Ernie Chambers has filed a lawsuit against God for terroristic threats and natural disasters: http://www.ketv.com/news/14133442/detail.html

(to make a point about frivolous lawsuits)
Why do the heathens rage behind the firehouse?

In America, if you're not suing someone, you should be.

Uh, did you read the article? It's to prove a point about frivolous suits.

I think the Senator is on target with trying to reduce litigiousness in American society.

Nevertheless, I think it's in bad taste.

Hmm... so he's trying to make a point, but i'm confused as to what exactaly he's trying to accompish.
Is he wanting the rules regarding who can sue and be sued?

It'd be better if the article revealed more of the purpose of the lawsuit rather than the details of it.

1) The lawsuit is a silly way to prove his point because God isn't legally a person in the United States.
2) It's an essential part of our legal system that anyone can sue anyone else.
3) I'm not convinced that the lawsuit that inspired him to do this is a frivolous one. It's a suit against a judge who has decided that witnesses are not allowed to use the word "rape" in a rape trial. :suicide:

yeah, though it would actualy be interesting if there want already an australian comedy film called "the man who sued god" that was all about complaining about the act of god clause that absolves insurance companies from payments.
