Building a boat.
2007-09-22, 12:56 AM #1
I'm building a boat for my senior project. Something in the traditional scandinavian style. I'm currently looking at this awesome boat, as pictured here

I can't wait. Its going to be awesome to have my very own little viking boat to cruise around in. >__>

So um yeah, post what you did for a senior project because you guys are all old.

I have no idea what a senior project is. It can be guessed that it's something big you do for your senior year of highschool.

All I did my senior year was sit behind the school during 4th period and draw boobies. ;)
My blawgh.

Ah, I figured they were more universal. Basicly its a year long project, that isn't really supported by a school class.. You pick something awesome you like and do it. Most people do lame stuff like making a crappy video or something.

Out of awesome.

Anyway, wood is still the best material for a beginner building a small boat.
Fiberglass is just plain crap. Plywood/epoxy involves nasty chemicals and looks stupid. Steel is a pretty effective hull material, but silly on a small boat. Wood is easy to work, easy to repair, and pretty to look at. Especially when finished with a nice oil rather than paint.

It's also really easy to light on fire.

If I went to your school that would be my senior project.

Actually, it'd be a pain to light on fire. Wooden boats absorb water, and wood soaked in salt water doesn't burn all that easily. Anyway, I don't know anyone around here likely to throw a molotov into my boat, so I should be fine in that regard.
