Now that I've gathered input from most of you all, it seems that there's two big camps right now, and we're going to need to decide between them. So, time to let democracy do it's magic!

A more detailed description of the choices:

Option 1: Expand Massassi's website into a full range of submitted content (articles, images, music, game mods, etc). We'll still have the editing, but it won't be all we have.

Option 2: Keep Massassi confined to editing video games. Editing is all we'll have, no expansion, just like current Massassi. We'll simply grab the latest and best editor out there and attempt to move towards that.

-------------------

My opinion Option 1 is the best. We'll still have our editing, we'll still have our old files, and we'll still have our forums. But more importantly, we'll have much more.

Option 2, in my opinion, is risky. We'll have to compete with other far more popular sites. Some argue that we may be more organized, clean, and developed, but in this day and age, even that doesn't always win out. We'll have to battle it out on some big commodity editing software that'll be coming out in the near future (UT3, and ID's new system). To me, it feels like we'll be in a bloodthirsty race. I'm not sure Massassi as a whole is up to that, nor if the current members are ready for the changes that may cause.

Again, those are just my opinions. If it turns out that the majority wants to go Option 2, I'll bite my tongue (REALLY HARD, MIND YOU :argh:), but we'll go that path.

Poll's open for 7 days. Feel free to continue posting comments. After it's closed I'll be making another poll for our next set of choices. As I said before, we're far off from anything happening (possibly months!), so don't get excited. I just want to keep things moving.

Option one looks the best, in my opinion, as it could;

A. attract new members, other than those interested in modding

B. make massassi's main page more active

C. make massassi more diversified- a sort of "one stop shop"
I can't wait for the day schools get the money they need, and the military has to hold bake sales to afford bombs.

I don't really play video games anymore, and so editing sounds kinda lame.

Neither.

"Hey Brian, thanks for giving me the site! Now i'll just change everything as soon as humanly possible!"

You don't choose an option, you try out ideas and see what works. Who cares if other sites are more popular? What's this nonsense about battling it out? If you have good content then you get visitors, it doesn't matter who the power players are. Everyone sees the internet as a bunch of websites competing with each other, but the fact is that visitors are happy to visit several sites to get what they want. It's not the same as buying products off a shelf. Just add a few gaming articles to the site as it is and see if it earns us some traffic, there's no point changing things until you have a clear idea of what it should be changed to, and when it comes to this kind of decisions having a democracy just doesn't cut it.

I'm not asking you to do what I want the site to be, because I honestly don't care, you just seem to be overly eager to make quite substantial changes as soon as you get the chance.

...Didn't I already say in my post this was not going to happen anytime soon?

This is how we're going to test things out. We'll set up whatever "wins" these votes on our beta page (where Massassi2 used to roam), and play with it there. If it works, and makes sense, then we'll go with it. If not, then we pitch it and work out something else.

You have to pick an idea to try out, Detty. You can't just try them all out simultaneously.

I'm with Detty. Don't dive head first into making changes. Let's test the waters first and see what works.

... you can't test waters without something to test. Good lord people! I'm not going to magically roll out a new Massassi next week with a whole new view. That'd be absolutely stupid and crazy.

Poor Coo-matteh, he keeps being misunderstood.

As someone hoping Massassi will become a good source of editing in the story department as well as other things to mix in with the story department (and visa-versa), I chose the first option.

Okay maybe, just MAYBE there should be a stickied thread where people can discuss this in an timely and ordered manner. Posts such as 'i vote for me' should not be tolerated in the thread.

After a good couple of weeks to a months discussion (since not everyone logs in that often) we can get an idea of where everyone wants this thing to go. I know we all turned over our souls to this place but we still run a democracy here right? *forgets about communism* oh right... that.

As long as it doesn't turn into one of those forums where no one recognizes anyone anymore because it's way too full of smacktards and idiots. The good thing about that is it's fun to watch Rob tear those idiots apart. :tinfoil:

Nothing's going to happen quickly. Frankly, I'd be ecstatic if we see ANY growth in the next year or so.

I concur. Forums are better when you know the other members that post. The more people who join the bigger chance there will be more gay people here. keep it like it is and use the www.massassi.org layout. i think its cool.

Yeah, don't want any gay people here.

Like this "full range of submitted content" thing would work. [http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/garosaon/emot-burger.gif]

Because if we keep it like it is, we're eventually not going to have any members. You sorta need new members to maintain a community.

Like it won't.

as long as the community as it stands stays fairly similar i'll be happy. do what you will with the rest.

more content across a wider range of games would be nice. i know my kids will start visiting just because of that.

I think an editing focus would be a good thing, but I voted for the first because we can always fall back if it fails utterly.
Why do the heathens rage behind the firehouse?
2007-09-24, 10:12 AM #30
I choose the first one.

Some of you guys make it seem like as soon as we open it up to more than just JK content you will get 12 year old boys submitting love songs they wrote about the Pakistani girl in their english class.

As long as the site and the submission of said content centers around a community (which, at least in the current way our community runs, is the forums) then it can only help the community by getting us to know eachother and such.

Who posts at Seriously! forums? They've done a lot of cool things with their community before, and I believe they still elect tribunes to help make decisions within the community.

Option 1 is the only way! However, I think that editing should still maintiain a prominent place, as a filter. Most people who join will either edit, or have a fairly good appreciation of editing. Not foolproof, and a LOT will slip through the cracks, but it will prevent silly blonde girls from posting crazy stories about their trip to england here who haven't even played jk. Uh, I mean :tinfoil: :D
