You have it backwards. $1 USD = $0.99739 CAD. Which means in terms of value CAD > USD.

It's a combination of both. The tar sands in Alberta have been fruitful for the economy of Canada (or at least for that province). However, the increased value of the Canadian dollar also harms Canadian export.

yes, if you had bought canadian money in 1999 and sold it today youd almost have made a profit after losing exchange fees and the interest you could have earned on that money
