Do you use/plan to use Vista?
2007-09-26, 10:35 AM #1
Im just mildy curious, and hey no obligatory poll yet.

I got Vista with my new comp, Sure i had to upgrade the video card (It was **** to begin with) but once that was done vista is all purdy and works well.

The DRM hasn't gotten in my way and the whole "INSTALLING JEDI KNIGHT! ACCEPT?" thing gets annoying but i got over it. Comes with a remarkably good DVD maker and a fancy media center. I have noticed that things i install have a habit of not going into the start menu however...

No. I will when it comes obligatory game-wise. Meaning that when interesting games turn Vista-exclusive (currently it's only Alan Wake), then it's time for me to change.

I voted *nix, but I may end up dual booting when I get a new laptop. Right now every machine I own is Linux.

I own a copy of Ultimate, but I haven't bothered installing it on anything yet.

Probably not until I get a new computer, which is probably at least a year away.

I dont know why exactly, maybe its the fancy shininess, the dvd maker and all that crap. But other then playing homeworld 2 (Borked on Vista.. so far) i don't see myself using XP anytime soon. Oh and the Ultimate extras suck.

I have a new computer on the way with Vista, so yeah.

There aren't any must have features that would make me want to upgrade my current computer at this time. I also don't see myself buying another computer for a very long time. My next windows OS will probably be THEIR next windows OS.

Looking at Vista i kinda wonder how the next ones gonna be any better...
Maybe it'll double as a toaster.

I won't bother upgrading my current computer to Vista but will most likely get it when I buy a new computer.

I have to have it on my tablet, but not on my desktop. I'll probably use it as a secondary when I get a new HDD, but I'll keep XP.
2007-09-26, 12:37 PM #12
I think it's silly to claim an allegiance to a single OS. I run Vista, OSX, Ubuntu, and CentOS.

I don't much care for vista, but it was free, and it'll get better over time.

- And I hate it.

I'm very much considering a dual boot of vista for videogames and finally getting into linux. I certainly don't want to downgrade to XP just for the sake of not using Vista, so I want to use some kind of an OS where I can do things other than game without stupid **** that vista has, and then a platform for gaming.

I have Vista for a few months now. I enjoy it. I dual boot with XP, but I havent had a reason to go back to that.

I have a copy of Business from school, installed it last year, played around with it, decided it wasn't worth it. When it becomes necessary I'll probably install it again.

I don't but since MS has a monopoly, I will eventualy.
But it'll be a while.

I use Vista and love it.

I use Vista at work (not by choice.) At home I use OS X. Vista is only good if you turn off the endless UAC prompts.

There is no reason to change to Vista on this computer. When I eventually get a new rig it'll probably come with Vista installed.

I just got a new laptop last week and it came pre-installed, so yes.

I've got mixed feeling about it so far but I'm trying to get used to using a laptop at the same so who knows. It works quite well but its more just the fact that I've become more accustomed to XP over the last 5 years.
nope.

I need to learn me some Linux better, which is the only thing keeping me from using Vista (aside from my 742mhz gateway with 416mb ram).

I may dual boot it when I get my own computer.

I have Vista Business that I got for free through RIT. It's totally awesome.

I'm a solo linux user, and have been for the past couple of years, but my housemate is tempting me with a copy of XP to use, so I can play games that I never got around to playing (e.g. FEAR expansion)

I plan on dual booting with it when I get my new comp.

If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

I'll probably have to use it at some point, but I don't plan on owning it. I'm happy with Linux for everyday things, and if I do find something other than JK that absolutely requires me to use Windows, I've still got XP installed.

Eventually I'll pick up Ultimate through my school's CCI program for $20, but I'm in no real hurry. I'll probably get it near the end of the school year.

I use Vista, but never for gaming, it's too slow. I boot into XP/Linux for gaming.

2007-09-26, 9:34 PM #33
I've notice some slow down in Vista games but not enough where everything is at a crawl.

Hell no. I probably won't even start considering it for a main OS until near the end of it's life span.

All the unreal tournaments and quake games run a lot better on my linux installation than my windows2000 installation. I also run awesome upgraded versions of all the doom games (well not doom3, which in fact does run better on linux, but I hated that game). Like, all the old ones. They open-sourced the engines way back and now there are real, full 3d versions that kick ***.

I also run all my old dos games on linux using dosbox. Mostly I play Master of Magic on there but I've also played Dark Forces for a while before I got bored.

NWN runs on linux. Quake Wars. America's Army. But I don't play those.

Other than that, if I ever play any real big 3d games, I switch over to windows because they use DirectX and therefore don't run on linux.

(I tried wine and it won't run JK, and it runs Jed but all buggy)

Don't forget the "Hardware Manufacturers That Didn't See Vista Train Comming Down The Tracks And Didn't Update Their Drivers For It" part too. I think that's pretty much ironed out now...
