It's Super Smash Brothers Meelee.

However, in Halo it's a Maylay attack.
I had a blog. It sucked.

"May-lay" is the proper pronunciation.

This isn't up for debate.

It's called a dictionary. Use it.

I know how it's supposed to be pronounced. I was curious as to how others pronounce it. Americans in particular always seem to butcher words like this.

I used to pronounce it mee-lee up until about 8th grade when my science teacher heard me say it to a friend in class and he told me the correct way to say it. It was funny though, because we were talking about Smash Brothers Melee being released for the GameCube, and my teacher told us that he bought a GameCube just so he could play that game. That teacher was awesome.

MayLay of course, but a common one around Minnesota I've noticed is Mell-Lee. :downswords:

Agreed. And root, not rutt. Seriously. It's ROOT BEER... By the pronunciation logic they use up here it should be RUT BER.

Kind of funny, back when I used to play WoW I played with quite a few people from Minnesota. They always said Mell-lee and were endlessly made fun of for it.

Pronouncing it the way it's spelled is what acctualy makes sense.
"may-lay" doesn't make any sense, and it irritates me, but for the sake of not being made fun of, I pronounce it that way.

It's the spelling that's doing a poor job of representing the pronunciation, not the other way around...

It's pronounced /meɪleɪ/.

For those who don't know IPA, it's like "mey ley"

None of the above.

Mell-lay is the way i say it. (except without the double l sound) I guess it's just may-lay with a softer first 'ay'

I am yet another Minnesotan who used to say meelee until I realized I was saying it wrong.

When I was like...10 or something, me and my friend always pronounced it meelee, then we heard someone else say it maylay, so I looked it up and now we pronounce it correctly.
