Switzerland Beer!
2007-09-27, 4:44 PM #1
My friend just got back from Switzerland and she brought me 2 beers to try out. I'm going to review them here.

The first is Gordon Finest Red.

8.4% Alcohol, the lip of the bottle boasts the words "strong red beer," and let me tell you: It's strong. I'm only on my fourth or fifth sips, and at first I didn't really like it. I'm used to thick dark beers, and this is more thin and powerful in flavor.

I'll tell you how I like it about half way through, and have agreed to NOT post if I am drunk. At 8.4% Alcohol, I wouldn't be surprised.

(Post your favorite beers that are NOT made in your country)

About 1/3rd of the way through, and I'm really starting to like it more and more. It's got lots of subtle flavors intertwined, and the after taste is amazing. It's still a little kicking, but I like the kick now.

Truth.

I don't know... Guiness is OK, but I'm a Blue Moon fan if I'm on tap beer. And if I'm feeling cheap, Killian's Irish Red.

Don't drink anymore.
If I had money, I started the night with [http://www.beveragenet.net/bd/2004/0406/images/0406bbz1.JPG]
Then after one or two of those depending on how much money I had, which switch to Steel Reserve.

Just because of the tartan and thistle motif of the can, I am wondering if that is actually a Scottish bear, Kirby?

This is the single best beer in the entire world. Tastes wonderful and contains 9% alcohol by volume. Velkopopovický Kozel Dark gets honorable mention.

i think gordon's is belgian. comes off pretty strong with the scotch motifs, which is probably some marketing strategy

from what i remember, it was quite faecal

I've just come back from Switzerland. Amazing beer! (or "shop") Drinking at altitude also is advised as it's very fun and cheap. Takes three shops.

And now for the Holland beer, Amsterdam "Maximator."

This beer is 11.6% alcohol, and it doesn't try to hide this fact anywhere inside of the can. It tastes very clearly like rubbing alcohol with something sweet tossed in. Despite this fact, if it's kept ice cold, it seems to go down really smoothly. Surprisingly so. Still, nothing like my usual dark beers.

If you want that punch, drink Steel Reserve. 4.75 a 12 pack, and halfway decent considering its that much for 12.
(edit, double checking it's only 8.1 but for some reason I thought it was 11 something as well... hrmm must have been something else.. still a good deal)
