Router Help

As my clan members know, I've been having trouble with my router. After a few months of no success with messing with the settings of my router, I was given a link to Hamachi.

It worked wonderfully for the first night, and I was able to play with my clan mates and freinds (I came in like third to last, but it was still fun.) The next day I played again, but as Vallo knows I had a bit of trouble getting it to work. (I had to re-start my PC 3 times.)

For the past few days I haven't been able to play at all! I looked around JKDF2.Net, and found that they do have network for Hamachi. I set it up, but when I tried to play still nothing. Does anyone have advice concerning Hamachi, or a better port system. Thanks guys!

So we're talking about Jedi Knight, correct?

You can find the port settings for your router on this site.

Open up 47624 and 2300 - 2400 TCP/UDP and you should be good to go.

I just placed my Hamachi to those settings and got nothing. I have two possible other ways:

From JKDF2.Net-

Hamachi - a last resort
If you are unable to connect directly, you may want to install Hamachi and try connecting to the Virtual Private Network.

    Once you install Hamachi:
    - Join Network: JKSERVER2
    - The Network Password is: jkreborn
    - Launch JK, and connect with TCP/IP: 5.22.35.145

That didn't work either. Doesn't anyone suggest the second option, port forward?

I do know that if you have Windows Firewall on and you don't tell it to make Jedi Knight an exception then it isn't going to work for you. I don't know if that helps or not, but it was one of the problems preventing a friend of mine and me from playing IP games in Jedi Knight.

No, I know my problem is with my router. Thank you for the attempt, though.:)

You seem awfully sure of that. Have you at least attempted what Dark__Knight said?
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

I am awfully sure of it because the router is not configured to the correct port and Hamachi took that port used it and was able to play two games.

So, I know it has nothing to do with the firewalls. But I have tried it.

Today's the 10th Anniversary and I would really like to play with my clan, so if anyone has any other suggestions they'd be much appreciated.

Use these settings for your router, not Hamachi. Port forwarding always works for me with JK. Too bad I can't get the game to work without crashing. I badly need a new install of XP.

There's another system called Port Forward. Do you suggest using that, considering have have the specs for the game and I can place them in it? I happen to like Hamachi, but if it doesn't work it doesn't really matter.

The Hamachi server at jkdf2.net is likely not running anymore.

Hamachi works well, but the main problem is that *all* players of a game must be using Hamachi. This limits you to only playing other players who are using Hamachi.

The portforward.com site has a collection of tutorials on how to setup devices to use port forwarding. JK is not in any of the lists, so just follow the one for DirectX 7. Yecti and ORJ_JoS have given the proper ports to forward (which are the same for DirectX 7); the site might have your particular router on it. I use port forwarding on my router.

I play JK several times a week with other people who come into #jkhub, including those in the JKLE clan. Perhaps, you could join us there. We can even help you with any issues you might have setting up your router. Also, the #jk chat room on irc.gamesurge.net is having a "JK 10th Anniversary Party" on Oct 5, 6, and 7. Presumably, games will be played.

Thank you for your help! If I can get it working I'll be sure to drop by. However, I can't get into my router unless I totally reset it because I don't have the username or password (mine is different from the one specified in the link.) I know how to reset it, but will it cause any major issues if I do?
2007-10-01, 1:35 PM #14
It depends on the router. Also, there are variations on what default usernames and passwords are used. My guess is that resetting means putting all values back to factory settings.

After a lengthy conversation with a Linksys representative, that is what happens and he gave me the exact way to do it correctly. I'm just worried that the non-default password was done on purpose, but I would guess it's for security. Thanks for all your help! :)

ZeqMacaw, I don't mean to doubt you but are you sure about this? I know running JKSERVER I had both Hamachi and non-Hamachi users in the same game. The only thing I am not positive about is if they all 'saw' each other.

Obviously hosting both JK and Hamachi network- I was able to see everyone.

Yeah I'm pretty sure not all users need Hamachi. The other users should be able to connect to the regular external IP.

I thought I had run tests with Hamachi, but now I doubt my memory on it. I will test when I get the opportunity.

[Edit: I was probably getting mixed up with what is likely true: If the host is only running Hamachi and has not opened the ports, then all clients would need Hamachi to connect to that host. ]

:)

Yes, if the host cannot connect otherwise, everyone would need to tunnel with Hamachi.
