It's been a while haha.

Post thoughts in support of / flaming both social and professional fraternities/sororities that you are a part of or have experienced in some way.

No greek membership here. There's enough partying and other stuff to do as it is without paying huge ammounts of money to join a frat. Also, sororities steal all of the womenz. .(

Absolutely ridiculous attempts to have belonging, get drunk, or pretend/showoff you're Christians.

I spent some time loitering in the student union building and I was near a very obnoxious fraternity function. That experience simply reinforced my negative perception of fraternities.

Some frats are full of *******s, others are really cool.

I almost joined Sigma Alpha Mu, but I realized I wouldnt have enough time to make it worthwhile.

I dont get why people condemn fraternitys so easily though. I mean at first I didnt want to join one, but thats because I didnt care very much.

I condemn fraternity members because I think they're obnoxious. They're always trying to tell you about how they "almost nailed that chick" or something equally obnoxious.

Fraternities, sororities, and student governments are in colleges for people who couldn't grow out of high school.

stereotypes :downswords:

If you go to a state school, the incidence of idiot frat members is high because the incidence of idiots is high. Very few of the frats at RIT are like that.

Pretty much.

Also teen movies are not a good indication of what real fraternaties are like. I'm everyone consciously knows this, but the stereotypes in popular culture will rub off on you if you're already an ignorant swath.

I am not currently a member of any fraternities, but I have been seriously considering joining the Fire Protection Society, a professional fraternity on campus. There are lots of perks, so I hear, even apart from connections and knowing people in the profession, like in terms of good deals on training and equipment.

I'm not part of one, would never consider joining one (unless you consider I was recommended to join Psi Chi, which isn't even a fraternity), I'm not friends with any fraternity brothers, and I don't go to frat parties. When you consider the general nastiness/mob mentality of the student body, frat brothers aren't any worse. It's a good support network for some people, provided that they're in a frat that's interested in improving the lives of their members and/or the community.

The only fraternity I'm in is the newspaper. Unlike the other Greek organizations, we can rush freshmen as soon as they show up on campus. :awesome:

I am occasionally spotted at fraternity events, however. Mostly just when I have a friend in the frat.

i've never had any intrest in frats. I've got nothing against them, but I've also got nothing for them.
There are just as many idiots who are not in fraternities as there are in them.

I've been seriously considering joining the Freemasons.

I dislike fraternities only because MIT has more of them on our campus than BU does. BU's fraternities had to ship out into the boonies when the BU administration sold all fraternity real estate. The same frats at MIT ended up buying the properties. The same amount of partying occurs, now BU guys are just not welcome there. BU women, on the other hand, flock there in droves. ugh.

There are a whole lot of fraternities that are completely obnoxios, but some can actually be pretty helpful or cool. Yeah, stereotypes exist for a reason, but you'd be a fool to think that they're true 100% of the time.

you don't need to join the freemasons to do that.

all you need to do is quit taking your pills.

Yea, except for the fact that throwing down your letters/handshake in some places can land you an instant job with no questions asked, among other things (financial help, etc).

Frats can be kind of lame but if you use it right it can be a pretty big asset.

EDIT: ALSO not all frats are stereotypical "lol i hit that chick so hard last night i broke her nose on the headboard lololol", some of them actually have respect for women and other people.

Unfortunately, it depends on the chapter/location. I know in general sigma chi's/delta chi's are complete *** hats(read: popped collared douchebags), while in other places they are considered to be alright.
