We have no dial tone on the landline...every once in a while, it works again. Maybe I should call them. Orrr maybe I should just call Time Warner and get cable. It's faster. A lot faster.

This is what I got when I pinged my modem earlier..

you have DSL now?

Are your filters installed correctly? (stupid question, I know, but you never know)
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Uh, while I'm pretty sure you need a dial tone for Internet. Maybe not. Either way, you should still be able to ping the modem. So it sounds like an issue on it. Does it allow you to upgrade firmware?

Yeah, I have DSL. We've had it here for about a year...no problems 'till now. We only have one phone system and it does have a filter installed.

I definitely have no dial tone. I'll poke around the modem & see what I can find.

My sister once installed a filter over the line that ran from the wall to the modem. It took me like an hour to figure out why the BLOODY INTERWEBS didn't work.

Well, I reset the modem, then tried to get into the config screen...it kept resetting the modem whenever I tried to do anything. I gave up. After a while, I opened Firefox...and it worked. Weird. Hopefully it'll keep working!

If you don't have a dial tone, it's a problem with the phone line. No dial tone = no DSL.

I don't have a dial tone now, though...and for some reason, I'm online. Sporadic, but it's (sometimes) working.

Soo I had nothing for a couple of days, and now it's sorta working again. Blah. Before I get cable, I need to decide whether or not I'm going to move..

Iiiiinteresting. I just changed my firewall from 'medium' to 'antihacking only' and things are working much better. Perhaps I should trash this program (the one that came with the motherboard)...it uses tons of RAM anyway.

You really don't need a seperate firewall program if you're behind a router and use windows firewall.

You really don't need a seperate firewall program if you use windows firewall (and/or shut down unneeded services).

Your modem doubles as a router.
