I can't speak on behalf of the individual at all, but I wouldn't find it entirely unlikely that he checked up on the computer as he is expected to routinely as a scan is progressing (remember, most of the time any given agent could likely be working on 6+ computers at once) only to notice a suspicious file name. There is nothing in this article or the resulting lawsuit that even hints that the agent went snooping for anything. He likely followed policy 100% and he's being chastised for it.
And while I agree that the issue of data privacy is pandemic to the entire industry, at least Geek Squad is making efforts to root out our issue from the top down. I can't go into more detail than that, but it's more than your standard mom and pop shop is doing for you. Or more than any other major repair chain is doing either.
