Language warning!

CNN did a bit on this, concerned that kids would listen to this song because the video was animated.

And...if they did listen to it...what bad things would happen?

This was a topic of discussion in my Media Studies class. This was shown at 4:00PM on a countdown show on BET, uncensored. The show is originally aimed at kids, and the fact that they're showing this satirical video on a show with children being the prime viewers is sketchy. What's funny though is that all of the white conglomerate TV stations thought this was a serious "PSA" for black people.

Here's their gross misunderstanding of the video (you miss the outro before the break that shows PSAs from the 60s and 70s) coupled with an angry black reporter's PC drivel. The real issues are completely ignored in favor of being offended by the piece.

That newscaster is stupid. "Satire HAS to be funny"

BS satire has to be funny.

Bamboozled (A Spike Lee movie) was all about black people in blackface and minstrel shows. The freaking movie starts with a definition of the word satire and people still complained about how overtly racist the movie was.

Also, why does their panel of parents only include people who are opposed to the video? Sure the song might not be appropriate for everyone, but what bad is going to come from a song telling people to read books...

I remember seeing this song quite a while ago this year. It was great then, it's still great now. It makes me think of The Boondocks (season 2 premiers soon).

Furthermore, and not to be insulting -- but the panel of parents was decidedly more educated than the people represented by the video's satire. Were it a panel of lower class, uneducated black people I wonder if the opinion would have been different.
