How long does it take for you to fall asleep?

Usually, how long does it take for you to fall asleep?

I tried to sleep at 12:20 a.m , but my alarm clock, with its horrible red digits, showed it was 12:40 a.m.

I usually just think of nothing and lie down and eventually fall asleep but this is making me go crazy. Usually, when I can't sleep after 20 - 40 minutes I just stay up all night.

So, how long does it take you to fall asleep?

Under normal conditions, I'd say after 5 - 10 minutes I'm asleep. I usually think of what happened during the day, what to do tomorrow, and important stuff.

Honestly, I think it is a gift to be able to sleep almost after a minute you've closed your eyes.

I would say half the time it's under 5 minutes and the other half under 10

it usually takes me a while to fall asleep, though lately I've been going to bed late and exhausted so it hasn't been taking me very long

I have a hard time falling asleep all the time. It can take hours sometimes, even when I'm exhausted and tired as hell, I just can't sleep.

I seriously have no idea. Not long, though.

When I'm at a new place for the first time, it takes to tend like an hour or something. Or then not.

I usually don't have trouble falling asleep (as long as I haven't done anything silly like drinking stuff with caffeine in it before bed); my problem is waking up in the middle of the night (see: this post). Rarely does a night go by when I don't wake up a couple hours prior to when I had planned. I can usually get back to sleep though so v:)v

Oh, also

Somewhere around half an hour. My mind is way to active to just stop and go to sleep, it takes some effort to stop thinking about anything.

1-5 minutes.

It's not a gift. I simply go to bed too late and get up too early everyday. Have kids. You'll learn to sleep 30 seconds after your head hits the pillow...

Depends on whether I can shut my brain off or not. The nights when I really can't sleep I just can't stop thinking about things, which only keeps me awake longer.

It's random for me. Sometimes when I try to go to sleep at 10, I don't sleep until 3, but sometimes I'm out within 10 minutes. But never in 1 minute, that's impossible.

It's taken me about 30-40 minutes to fall asleep all my life.
2007-10-15, 9:46 AM #20
I'm about the same as JG. Longer if I was active before going to bed.

Most people who say they are insomniacs aren't. And a lot of people who say it takes them 30-40 minutes really takes them about a third of that. It just seems a lot longer when you're doing nothing.

I honestly don't have a clue.

Unless I'm pissed of course, then I know its instantaneous. :P
nope.

Between 30 minutes and an hour, although I'm usually listening to something on my iPhone/iPod (usually a leo leporte show), so I don't know how you want to factor that in.

Either I fall asleep within 15 mins or it will take me several hours often I end up getting about 2 hours sleep.

Then again... my sleep pattern is awful. I tend to get at best 4-5 hours sleep during weeknights then about 12 hours on saturday and sunday.

Sometimes about 20-30 minutes. If my mind won't shut up or if I'm pissed off or something then It does take 45min- hour. But if I turn my clock around so I can't watch it an worry about how quick I'm getting to sleep, or listen to some music that help me relax, I know I get to sleep quicker. 5-10 minutes?
2007-10-15, 11:28 AM #25
15 minutes or so. Less if I've been really active during the day.

I usually fall asleep in less than 15 minutes. If I can tell sleep just isn't gonna come then I get up and do something until I'm ready to sleep.

I don't really even know if I fall asleep. I'll just stare at the ceiling, look at the clock wondering why I'm still awake, look at the clock again, and realize 4 hours has passed. I don't ever feel like I've just woken up though.

If I've had caffeine in the past few hours, I will lay awake for hours. But if I'm clean, usually about 10-20 minutes.

It's not a gift. It's called only getting 4-5 hours of sleep on a regular basis.

[edit: ah, I see I'm not the only one who thinks so]
