anyone use this? de-synching is a big problem. does anyone have any suggestions for converting dvd's for portable media players (software, format, etc)? i've done this before for different reasons and different dvd players and always ran into de-synching.

fyi, i converted animatrix following avs's instructions for my zen using the software's suggested settings for the zen vision m (640x480 for a 2.5" 320x240 screen).

It's probably converting to the wrong framerate.

Some DVDs (especially animated ones) run at 24 (technically 23.976). If it isn't figuring this out for you, you need to tell it that.

I use the following programs.

Dvd Decrypter
Megui
and AviSynth.

The steps are basically, decrypt the dvd in IFO mode (and make sure you select the longest film segment.) make sure you update MeGui... and then use the d2v tool. Then use the AviSynth tool and open the created d2v. Select you encoding options and you are pretty much good to go. :hist101:

Just make sure you read up on x264 and the options available in megui. You might have to use Xvid as well for a mobile platform. For an Ipod you use x264 but you have to make sure you use the correct options.

BTW I have never ran into syncing problems with the Megui method (I have with other encoders) I believe that this is because when done correctly the Audio will have the correct ms delay posted on the file (DVD Decrypter will generate that info) other encoders don't get the information, or even have the ability to change it.

One other thing that might help is MKV tools has the ability to shorten or lengthen the sound file to match the video length, that should get you relatively correct sound for your video. but not a whole lot of mobile devices support the mkv format.

iRiverter is a pretty good program, simple intuitive interface. it has options for the zen vision, although the last release was sometime last year, so it may not be compatible with newer versions of the hardware.
