I was just in Washington, actually, and our group took a subway. Sure enough, they confinscated all of our bagged lunches when one kid was eating his apple. I found it hilarious, but the group administrator had no extra money to feed us with, so we ended up not eating lunch that day, and had a 10 extra pizzas that night. Luckily, I had my lunch in the back of my wheelchair, in a compartment, hidden.

I think it's more of a litter crackdown.

Litter does make a city look horrid. Singapore is so clean and totally litter-free because of a really harsh clampdown on litter. It's made the whole place look fantastic.

If it contributes to the niceness of the city, at the cost of "your right to eat chocolate on the train!!!" then I don't think that is really too much of a price to pay.

Jailtime though? I think our country's money is better spent kicking baby-rapists in the nuts, not frisking 12 year olds because they've got a bag of hardies.
