I upgraded to Gutsy yesterday, and I've been having assorted problems with Gnome lately.
My main problem is that the contents of windows that I open under Gnome are invisible about 75% of the time; No text, no pictures/icons, nothing. (compiz fusion is running, and because of this problem I can't disable it to see if that helps) I just get the window frame, but it's empty. This affects both programs and the various configuration tools in the Gnome menus, although opening the same window 3-4 times sometimes makes everything show up. The problem makes Gnome practically unusable. I have KDE installed as well, and that works fine.
When Gnome is loading from the login screen (KDM) , I sometimes get warning messages, such as "Trash has quit unexpectedly" and things to that effect. When these show up, clicking any option on the error dialog makes the Gnome menu bars (top and bottom) flicker off and on indefinitely, and my only option is to kill the X server. I had this problem even under Feisty, but at the time I was hoping that upgrading to Gutsy would fix it.
Also, while running Gnome, my CPU usage is at or close to 100% most of the time.
Strangely enough, these problems affect only my account. There are other users on this machine and I can use Gnome with other accounts with none of these problems. (Compiz fusion and everything else works great) This makes me think that these problems have something to do with my account instead of the Gnome packages themselves. Is there a way to fix this?
